Smith and Wesson New Departure chambered for the 38 Smith and Wesson round in beautiful condition which left the factory November 1889. According to Smith and Wesson the star after the serial number indicates the revolver was sent back to the factory to be refinished and the refinish date is stamped under the grip panels on the frame, which is March 1914. Along with the photos I’ve included a copy of the email I received from the Smith and Wesson Historical Foundation after I sent them photos of the revolver. The action works well and the lock up is tight, but the trigger feels rough. I can’t say how good triggers felt in 1889. The grip panels are rather loose because, according to a gunsmith, the screw needs to be replaced. I would like to get $900 but would consider a respectable offer.
