I am looking for instruction on adjusting the Remington 40X trigger assembly down to 2.5lbs. I had contacted GAPrecision and was going to send it to them for custo work and decided to wait and attempt to adjust the trigger myself. I have not touched the trigger as I am unsure which screw to adsjust. After contacting Remington with my rifle serial number, they responded to me with the following response.

"Thank you for contacting Remington Country. Your Model 700 PSS was produced in 1998. The 700 P uses the 40-X trigger system and it can be adjusted with the screw that is just in front of the trigger shoe itself. Range is between 3 and 5 pounds. 45-55 inch pounds of torque on the action screws should work just fine for you."

In the link I have provided, can someone walk me through the adjustment procedure? Here are the pics.

Re: 1998 PSS 40X Trigger Adjustment

Well that sucks!!! I emailed Remington my serial number and they told me my serial number comes back as a 1998 PSS with the 40X trigger group. Guess I will have to upgrade it then. Or is this a decent trigger?

That is a good trigger IMHO. Go to "Google" or to "Abe Books" and find a copy of "Shoot Where You Aim". Shouldn't cost more than $10 or so...used book, and out of print. Has a good step by step for that trigger...and much more. Good luck.

Here's a 40X Trigger, get a holland spring kit from midway and you'll be fine with that trigger.
