i just finished up a 3 day fully guided hunt with the guy pictured, from aberdeen, SD... he wasn't set on a trophy because he didn't want to pay my price, regardless, you couldn't get the guy to quit smilin... it was a fun hunt, we had a cold front move in last night, this morning @ 4:30a.m the wind was gusting up to 35mph, spitting some rain, we played the wind, and this little guy came walking right into my hunters lap... 1st bull elk in the state of SD down, got a few more guys lined up but they're looking for something over 300 class, i hope to post more pics within the next few months.
    ENJOY!!!

Would kill my sorry welfare ass before I lost sight of the truck!!!!

Young fella and his dad from here are down there now. Thought he said 'archery'? Do they run them together? Didn't think so. Hell I am getting old and early selective dementia leaves me forgetting anymore.

    Congrats on successfull endeavor.

well, you can use a bow for the prairie elk season, i took a bull last year with my bow using this license... most guys prefer a rifle simply because the "any" elk tag, is a once in a lifetime tag, and next year its gonna get even harder to draw, we're talking to the state and having them cut the # of licenses.

Are the cats taking a toll on the elk over there to? My father in law has some land lined up just on the south west corner kind of where the hills end and prairie starts to try to get a lion this year.

Re: 1st SD Prairie bull elk of the season.

No, the cats aren't hurting the prairie elk pop. at all really, but up in the park its real bad... my good buddy lives in custer and he told me over 1/2 the cow elk don't have calves, the lions up there get smart and wait during calving for them little calves to drop, and its all over... i don't understand the concept of the states thoughts on the mountain lion... i mean, seriously, they need to die, or the elk will dwindle more than they already are. i have a landowner cat tag that lasts year round, so i will do my part when the time comes.

I heard the cats are destroying the mountain sheep around Hills City. They use to line highway 16, I haven't seen any for a while not.

We had a good fire on Elk Mountain, that should have pushed the elk north a bit.

I have heard they are really getting at the elk in the park. they keep saying there are not that many but funny they seem to fill the quota in no time. There has been a few slinking around the mobridge area. We saw one last year run into the corn field just as we were getting ready to hunt it. Thats why the guys from west virgina missed the whole time they said they were worried about the cat.
