Does anyone have any info on sighting in BUIS on a POF p415 monolithic rail? I have tried and cant get a zero. Shoots 14" low. I seems as though there is not enough adjustment on the micro sights.

Re: 1st time sighting in Troy BUIS

I've had similar problems with both an LR308 (with Troy BUIS) and before that a Marlin 30-30 that I put a ghost site on.

With both I spent a bunch of time (without success) doing the math and trying to find the right peices on the internet.

Both were solved with a quick call to the respective company.

I'd recommend calling Troy. They're happy to help and you'll save a few grey hairs :^)

Enjoy,
Bob

Re: 1st time sighting in Troy BUIS

Step 1: buy the front sight tool
Step 2: call the manufacturer

I haven't made it to step two yet. I mounted Troy micro BUIS on my POF 415 and scratched the heck out of the front sight trying to get it adjusted. Bought the front sight tool and it made a huge difference and I was just able to get it on at 25 with the front sight down as far as it will go into the housing, but I ran out of daylight and haven't had a chance to confirm at 100. If you find a good solution make sure you post your results, I will be watching this topic.

Re: 1st time sighting in Troy BUIS

I have no problem with the Micro BUIS on a couple different rifles. When the last set I got arrived, I removed them from the packaging, mounted them and zeroed them the same day. The first thing I had to do is move the front sight to change POI roughly 6" up at 35yds.

The best advice I can give you is to find the center of the adjustment range on the rear sight and set it there (your primary means of elevation adjustment should come from the FRONT SIGHT...not the rear). Then, with a small punch (or a 5.56 bullet tip if you don't have a punch...you need not waste time or money with the sight adjustment tools), adjust the front sight post until you can achieve your desired zero. The adjustments are in 1/2MOA increments (for both front and rear sights). To move your bullet impact UP...you need to move the front sight post DOWN which should require right-handed/clockwise adjustments.

Re: 1st time sighting in Troy BUIS

Thank you for your reply. That was the 1st thing that I did. They thought that there might be a problem with the set and asked me to send them in for repair. After I got them back, the same problem was still there. I called Rainier Arms after noticing that they sell the Diamond Head sights and also POF riffles. Their tech said that POF's rail system sets higher than most and suggested that I incorporate Troy Micro Battle sights, which I have. He was perplexed at that point.

Re: 1st time sighting in Troy BUIS

Thank you for the info and I also appreciate the links. I was told the problem lies with the rail setting higher than most. Darryl on the tech department said to zero at 60-75 yards instead of the typical 25m. When I tried, the still shot way low. They have Diamond head BUIS on their web page but having a higher sight I think will add to the problem.

Re: 1st time sighting in Troy BUIS

I finally got info from Rob at POF about BUIS. Apparently John Duluka at Diamond Head has came up with a raised rear sight to compensate for the front sight not having enough room for the proper adjustment. Once I get the final details from John I will post the final solution.

Thanks for your input.
