Rifle Scopes 2.5-10x42 MIL/MIL FFP IOR for long range?

I am working on putting the last pieces of my light precision rifle project together and I was wondering if this scope would offer sufficient elevation adjustment to get me out to 1000 yards. The scope is listed as having 22 mils of elevation adjustment available. I know 10 power isn't ideal for this range, but I would like to have the adjustment available if I was so inclined. The rifle is a SPS Tactical AAC with a seekins 20moa cant base. I have read every topic on this forum about it and it's something no one really talked about so I was hoping to get a definitive answer. Thank you.

The short answer is yes - the long answer in round numbers...

With the 20 moa base you will need about 5mils down to zero the scope at 100 yds. At that point, you will have about 6 mils more down and 16 mils up. Figure a rough 10mils up to get to 1k depending on load, conditions etc and you'll be good.

2.5-10 is my fav mag range for a hunting or plinking rifle (and the ior 2.5-10FFP is my pick) but it's not enough for target shooting especially at longer ranges. I would really think about getting something with 15-20 on the top end ESPECIALLY if that rifle is going to be 95% range rifle.

Well, the only thing is that there is a severe lack of any nearby long ranges here, so most of the shooting I do will probably be out to 300 on the range and less than that when hunting. I would be happy with hitting silhouettes at 1000. I am aware of the limitations of the optic as far as trying to achieve solid accuracy at long range. My emphasis here is really to have a lightweight and handy rifle that is still capable of hits on a man-sized target at 1000 if I get the chance to shoot at that range.

I think you'd be perfectly happy with an IOR 2.5-10, Super Sniper 3-9, Leupold 3.5-10, NF 2.5-10 and all of those are within 3-4oz of one another. If you want more magnification but want to keep the weight down the only ones I can think of are the Vortex PST and Leupold 4.5-14 mk4 models. Pretty much everything else is 1/2lb or more heavier...

If fixed 10X is an option there's a guy selling a super sniper HD in the classifieds, I think he's down to 500$ now. That would look good on top of your rifle too.

I have the IOR 2.5-10 FFP, great scope (the new version, with the larger diameter elevation turret. Avoid the old ones (capped turrets) like the plague, turrets weren't great and illumination was awful.

Also, be aware the 2.5-10 tunnels below about 4X (meaning the filed of view doesn't increase, the image simply gets smaller in the tube - as more tube shows around the edges.) I use mine as a 4-10 and it is a great scope.

The SS3-9 is another good option, lacks illumination, but no tunneling and more elevation adjustment. I have used both, own both, prefer the IOR on subsonic hog gun and the 3-9SS on all else.

Yeah, I've been reading quite a bit about the other optics. It seems that for the price the IOR offers the most features in a brand and model that has a history of reliability. I was looking at the Leupold MK4 M5s as well, but the lack of illumination sort of turned me off. I am aware of the tunneling issue on the IOR under 4x but I don't think it should be too big of a problem. Thanks guys.

A 10x scope will do the job to have fun and work as a tactical scope but I would recommend a little more power. If the scope is SFP go up to 16x if the scope is FFP then for the most part the highest power you would like as long as it had a good low-end.

Scope came in today. Very impressed with the build quality and clarity, I think I'm going to enjoy it very much. The stock is supposed to be here tomorrow but I just moved into an apartment and I'm not quite sure how UPS is going to handle delivering the package while I'm in class.

Well, I'm a little pissed off.

Got out of class early, came home and my stock arrived about 30 minutes later, took it out and got everything put together minus the torque. Stock feels and looks amazing, loving the package.

Room mate is out of town for the weekend so I was looking forward to spending the next couple days at the range getting some practice. Cycle the bolt and something's hanging up. They forgot to mill out the fucking groove for bolt clearance.

Big set back and ruined my weekend. I would expect more attention to detail after spending almost a grand on a rifle stock. They said they'd make it right, hope it happens quick.

As much as I want to take it out to the range, fuck that. They fix it. I have problems with taking a Dremel to a 900 dollar stock because someone in production didn't have their coffee and someone in QC had their head up their ass. This should have never left the building, I'm not touching it.

The 3.5-18x50 is ffp and illuminated, the 3-18x42 is ffp. I think you'll be happy with the 2.5-10x42 I have one as well as the 3.5-18x50.

Where do you shoot in Lubbock? Are there any long ranges there?

I apologize, I was thinking of the 2-12x model. I considered the 3-18x but decided against it as I wanted to keep the weapon light weight, and the ranges I'm going to shoot at don't really make it necessary. I just moved to Lubbock last Saturday. As far as I know there are no good long range ranges in this area. I've looked but everything within two hours only goes out to 300y. It's kind of ironic with as much dead and empty land is there is around the city. I'm hoping I can buddy up with some rich kid whose dad owns a dust ranch or something and do some long range work.

The same is true for south Louisiana. big laughs for this post. There's probably a dust rancher that would let you shoot LR if you go to the trouble to ask. Similar to asking people to duck hunt on their land. Allen Iverson could practice with the hogue most likely btw.

I'm not a rich kid by any means, but I have a 1000 yard range at my step dads farm. I live in Brownfield it's like 30 minutes south of Lubbock. Its not the greatest range but it works, can shoot anywhere from 50-1000 yards at steel target. I usually shoot by myself, if your interested hit me up and we can get together and shoot.

I had a 3-18x42 and while I liked it overall the eye relief just wasn't going to cut it for me as it was just too short.

I have found a NIB 2.5-10x42 for a good price and am debating about it myself for my rifle and believe after using a SS 10X HD that 10x will be fine for me out to at least 600yds for steel. If shooting at paper I would probably want more but this scope seems to be quite the value to me in the current lineup of scopes.

There are worse places to live than Lubbock I promise. I run an IOR 3.5-18x50 and it gives me plenty of magnification, clarity, and mil to take care of business. IOR scopes are sweet.

Using my GI Bill and attending school Texas Tech. I moved here from central Texas as you can see by my phone number. Austin area is nice if you like being surrounded by people constantly, even when outdoors, or own your own private land. Neither apply to me.
