2 oz trigger on a tactical rifle?

Re: 2 oz trigger on a tactical rifle?

I used to use a light trigger - not 2oz.....more like 8-10oz. With more practice and experience, I've found I actually prefer a bit heavier - about 1.5lb

Re: 2 oz trigger on a tactical rifle?

Was it a tactical rig shooting benchrest? That is the only type of shooting that would require a 2oz trigger. I shoot with some guys that use their tactical rigs for benchrest shooting and they will adjust the triggers down for times they are doing so.

No he was shooting prone. Surgeon action w/ a short fluted barrel, brake, S&B 5-25 on a stock I can't remember the name of. Real nice guy.

Re: 2 oz trigger on a tactical rifle?

I currently have one of mine at 8oz also, but I'm changing it to 1.5 lbs. it's way too lite for anything else but bench shooting as it stands.

Re: 2 oz trigger on a tactical rifle?

I shoot a light jewel trigger in ftr prone competition on a tactical style rifle. It is less than a pound, and I wouldn't mind going lighter. Many of the other shooters are doing the same. if I were hunting with it, I would want it heavier, but hunting and match competition are two very different levels of precision.

Re: 2 oz trigger on a tactical rifle?

I like mine at about 1lb. I don't like to have to pull on the trigger but I like to feel when its going to break. When you get in the ounces you cant feel it break. for me a 2lb trigger is to much I like it between 1 and 2 pounds.

Re: 2 oz trigger on a tactical rifle?

Back before I knew better, coming from a benchrest rifles background mind you, I used my first tactical rifle at 2oz. Well guess what happened at my first match? You got it...an AD. I was re positioning the rifle(pointed at the target)and the rifle went off.

All four of my tactical match rifles triggers are set at 22os. No more AD's since. keep your trigger out of the trigger guard until it's time to fire!

My local smith had me take a rifle out and test fire/zero it for him that he had built for another client out of state. It was a quasi-M40A3 build with a 2 oz Jewell.

I ND'd it while on the rifle and lining up to center the shot. Just barely brushed the trigger with my finger.

Second ND I can recall was on a 260 with a 10 oz trigger. Friend's rifle he had just got from its previous owner. I was on the rifle about to break a 400 yard shot, him spotting, when he saw movement to our right (his dog). He had me come off the shot. As I went to lift the bolt handle on this unfamiliar to me stock and bolt knob, BANG.

Very very bad idea for a field rifle.

Re: 2 oz trigger on a tactical rifle?

Even though I target shoot about 90% of the time, I don't run a 2oz trigger even for that. I just sold my 12oz'er in favor of a 1.5#'er again. I like to rest my finger on the trigger prior to the shot. 2oz is nothing but dangerous all the way around.

I like it when the trigger break suprises me, but NOT like that!!
