I had a random thought. I know at least some competitors in the action shooting sports use things like Saiga and Vepr 12 gauges. I'm curious if any use 20 gauge Saigas. It seems like it would allow for slightly higher capacity in a box magazine.

Nope. Bad choice.
Lots of us tried that 10-15 years ago.
Not enough oomph and ammo selection for 3-gun stuff is lacking.

"Advantages" would be less recoil, and maybe better, easier to manipulate especially for those with smaller hands. A moot point in a mag fed gun. Negatives listed above.
I've seen people mostly get by in club matches where targets were close, but even then they'd get hung up occasionally on some poppers that just weren't impressed.
