20 MOA rail on 93R17

Wondering if a 20 MOA rail is really needed on a 93R17. My 17 HMR doesn't need any elevation in the base to shoot at 100 yds. How far out does the target have to be to start seeing a need for a base with built in elevation?

100 yards you will not need it. I shot my 17 hmr with a bsa sweet 17 scope out to 400 yards with no moa base

I shot my 93R17 without a base no problem. How far do you want to shoot it? I think for the useable distance of the 17HMR you'll be fine.

agree, it's flat enough that a decent modern optic on top would probably be good enough. i got a .22 mag that goes out to 275 before bottoming out on the optic, i imagine the .17 would probably be more like 350 to 375 before needing the help.

if you want, you could figure it out by running your data in a ballistic program, converting it to MOA you have to dial in, then figure out if you have that much adjustment left in your optic to compensate. at the yardage you run our of adjustment, that's when you'll need a base or MOA adding rings.
