I bought a Colt AR15 A2 Sporter II over 20 years ago, and its still just like I bought it. I have several other AR's that I shoot, so this one just sits around collecting dust. I am thinking about gettting rid of it since I am a shooter, not a collector.

Any reason to hang on to this thing? I an undecided on what to do with it...

Super Bee,

The older Colt AR's are growing in collectors value due to the influx of all these other AR manufactures in the market. If you do not have a specific need for the cash from it I would hold onto it for awhile. It takes up a little room but does not eat anything. It is not as valuable as one of the older sporters with the pencil barrel but still worth making sure you get a good price for it. My brother has had an old sporter for 30 years now it still shoots great, he shot a couple ground hogs today with it while loading grain. Just my thoughts, hope it helps with your decision making.

No doubt Colt pumped out some real mutts. A1 sight, A2 handguard, A2 grip, no fence lower ala SP-1, no FBA, yet still stamped A2.

As a transition rifle you might be able to find just the right twisted f**k that will go gaga over it and pony up some decent coin particularly if you have the original box for it.

If you are a shooter and NOT a collector, the decision seems obvious. If your Colt is just taking up space in the safe and you have no intentions of shooting it...sell it and let someone else enjoy a quality Colt AR. That will allow you to invest in something that you'll use whether it be another firearm, optics, ammo, etc.

On the other hand, I don't consider myself a "collector" either in the strictest sense of the word, but I have a 1971 Colt SP1 that is just sitting around in a similar condition. I do shoot it once in a great while and keep it cleaned/lubed, but one of many other AR's always hit the range and the field with me. I just can't bring myself to part with a classic Colt that really started the American Shooter's fascination with the awesome "Black Rifle."
