Got a chance to get together with some of the fellas here on the hide and do some long range shooting. Had targets from 100 yards to 2030 yards. Four guys ended up getting hits with .388 lapua, .338 norma, .50bmg and .408 cheytac!

We also ended up recovering a .338 bullet that I think the fellas here may enjoy seeing.

Good shooting longslugger! You never thanked me for being such a good coach. Had a great time yesterday. Hope to get together soon and move the targets out to about 2700yds.

Our10x10 canopies look tiny! I finally got to shoot my custom .408 at a proper distance 2030 yards!!! I had a great time shooting with y'all and can't wait to go again.

Vestal's custom rifles did an awesome job on my CheyTac.!!!

I was just an observer for the ELR stuff, I know the norma and lapua were both shooting at 2800 fps. I am thinking altitude was around 2200ft so they were still just above going subsonic at 2030

What kind of elevation you need on a scope to get there?

The 338 Norma has a 60moa base. Nightforce 5.5-22x50 (NP-R1) reticle. I turned elevation knob all the way down, then loosened the turrett screws and reset zero. That way we can use all the adjustment the scope offers. The very top of reticle, not center becomes the 100yd zero. It took 76moa to hit 2035yds. There is still enough adjustment to get to roughly 2600yds. Me and Lodi have shot 338`s out to and hit at 2449yds. Another friend of mine has hit 2662yds with his 338 Lapua.

Yes thats right but when your shooting at targets over a mile, higher magnification is needed for more precise shooting. I actually hit 2449yds with my FFP scope on 10x to gain more reticle and quickly realized that more magnification was needed. All of my long range rifles (over 1000yds) have 60moa bases also.

I figure I have about 30 mil on the pst with the base and half value of the elevation. I have a millet with 140 moa that would give me more elevation at the expense of clarity. I guess I need a razor or S&B.

on these rifles there was a nightforce, 2 premiers, and someone else will have to post what Tom has on his lapua...I cant recall what it was, but possibly a leupold with horus reticle?

I thought that looked an awful lot like the Blue Ridge Mtns
or home........congrats men. Myself and Mdavlee are workin
towards 2k. Actually, Im shootin for 1,500 yrds with my FN 300WSM
but skys the limit for Mike and his 338 Lapua Magnum
man, I'd love to shoot out that way with you fellers.
cant find that distance in Asheville and cant find it in my home
county of Avery,NC. But, again,congrats fellas.

Paul, I have a 6.5wsm that we have taken to 2k...saw splashes but couldn't walk it in before me ammo box was out. As long as you have enough scope you shouldn't have any problems meeting your goal.

Cool beans.....thats basically what Mike&I were talkin about tonight. Those higher end scopes really have the dope built in. Which makes me think about getting a Razor 5-20 instead of another Viper. In your opinion do I have enough gun in the 300WSM to make hits at 2000+ Im thinking with the right load and the Razor scope I just may. Maybe not though.....

You should potentially have plenty. There is a neat article on here about 3000 yard prarie dog shoot, and he uses a .308ai. Seeing where u hit can be more difficult with the 6.5 and .30 bullets around here in the grass though. If you wanted to go dedicated long range rig I would suggest starting with a base with more elevation like excalibur uses. Would make your zero further out tho so not practical for everyone.

We ordered some 190 bergers and I already had some winchester brass on hand so we're going to try that first. I can test it out to 500 yards about 20 minutes from my house so I'll probaby do load stuff at 200-500.

Hopefully gonna stretch out that new barrel, a little further real soon! My goal is to max it out around 2600y! A slug gun for the short stuff out to 750y and my norma for the ultra long rang! Man it's great to be a gun nut!

excaliber, photobucket links seem to be flaky today. I just tried it now and worked OK for me, and so did the OPs links in the first post, which earlier weren't working.

At that distance it would pencil through ballistics gel without expanding and not have much of a cavity. At a distance of 200 yards it is pretty nasty stuff, temporary cavity is MASSIVE!!!

there are great videos on youtube of hollow point bullets hitting steel, in very slow motion, and you see the copper jacket peeling apart like flower petals just like the OPs pic. The bullet must have hit the steel pretty much perpendicular for this to happen, I would guess.

I have to go look up the drop for my 338 Scenar at that distance and see what angle I get.

They do a great job of spreading knowledge and interest. They've proven it's possible for me to hit with my run of the mil hunting rifles up to 1000.

I'm trying to gather enough info and equipment to get to 1500-2000 one of these days with my own gear. Hitting with someone else's gun at 1800+ will put a smile on your face, an ache in your heart, and red in your checking account!
