208 Gr in 308win??

Is it possible to run a 208gr Hornady out of a 308 win with a 1:12 twist and maintain accuracy out to a grand?
Rifle is Factory
According to all documentation the 1:12 will not stabilize a 208.
What say you?

Couple of us tried the 208s from 308 via 12 twist tube in F T/R. If calm, worked okay but if you had any conditions at all, vertical went crazy. Not enough twist. We tested at 6800 ASL, if you are lower elevation then you'll have it even worse.

185 Berger Match BT LR is your best bet with a 12 twist barrel if you want to run on the heavier side.

That was my thinking. The 208 would be unstable in this twist. I have a friend who wants to run them. I have been around the 308 for a long time and have never heard that the 1:12 308 win could even handle this. I am old school and I do not know everything. But, i figured I had better check t out first since technology may have changed. I keep trying to tell him that a faster twist is needed for the 208 at longer ranges. I am sure the 208 would be fine out to a certain distance but to get the accuracy he is looking for at a grand, I seriously doubt it.

If you search this has been covered quite extensively. The 208 will stabilize the 208 and it does quite well in the wind, even at lower velocities.

I understand that HSM is loading the 208 gr Amax into it's 300 Winchester Magnum ammo.

I picked up some 208 amax's on a midway blem sale. I saw loads here working pretty good with re17. My little rem vtr with 20" barrel and 1:12 seems to think it's ok. I haven't tested em past 100 yds but bullet holes are almost touching and approx 48 grains has me cranking right near 2500 fps.
Hope I'm not in for a bad surprise based on above posts...will have try things a bit longer range.
