20MOA rail and mount

    If you have one, is it necessary to have the other? I ordered a T1x and I will be putting a 20MOA mount on it. Is it a good idea to have a 20MOA rail as well? Or is it not needed since the mount is 20MOA?
     
    Depends on how much of the erector’s overall travel you need. I generally don’t stack my cant. It’s either in the base or mount, not both.

    No way to answer based on what you have provided (would need to know application, typical max engagement distance, cartridge/bullet, scope, running a clip-on or not, etc).

    I’d check to see how many MOA is optimal for the Zeiss scope, cant-wise. For example, I get full usable erector travel with my SB 5-25x56 when a 30 MOA base is used (zero cant rings) but only 2/3 or so when using a 20 MOA base. This assumes that you will need most of all of the erector travel that is available.

    Still have no idea what the application/cartridge/bullet, max typical engagement distance so can’t tell you if 20 MOA is enough for sure but with that scope and non-elr application, 20 MOA is sufficient unless you’re trying to shoot a 22 rimfire to like 1000 meters or something like that.
     
    I have my cant stacked.
    I use the same scope, Cronus, mainly between 22LR Quad and 223 AR.
    The scope mount is 6mil/20moa and the Quad has another 6mil on the picatinny rail.

    This has worked VERY well since it gives much better image down range at farther targets and these two guns have zero within 0.5mil at 50m for 22lr and 100m for 223.

    My argument is that for regular rifle cartridge 6mil is quite plenty. But for 22LR, no way in hell it is enough, it drops like a stone.

    My view on it is:
    With modern scope alone, 330yds is at near max.
    Add 6mil/20moa and you get 400yds
    Another 6mil and you get to around 460yds.
    My max targets have been around 420 and if I remember correctly I still needed to hold because of cold weather. That distance has so far been the most fun and interesting to ever shoot, I have been there after that too.

    i just got my hands on a lithgow la101 and had to wait for it so its not just ammunition or my replacement athlon scope which has been over a year and im still waiting patiently. but my rings are 0moa and the rail i just purchased is 30moa for the la101.

    I'll look in to getting a 20MOA rail for the T1x when it arrives at some point in the future then.
     
    If you need the extra elevation to absolutely can stack more offset as long as your scope can handle it.
    A good general rule is never more than half of the total scope travel but a bit less than half is safer because they don’t always zero in the middle.

    A 45 moa rail or combined total for a 100 moa scope is about perfect.
