I just had a parker hale 22-250 barrel set back 5/8" to tighten the chamber up.
He also faced the chamber lugs a tad where the mauser actions tend to dimple them.
I can see where the bolt was marked and timing checked.
The problem I have is a new winchester case will chamber, a resized case will not
if the should is set back properly. It marks the case heavily right about where head separation would occur. I size with an old rcbs die that I got with the gun years ago
so I don't know the history of it.
The bolt will lock about 1/3 to 1/2 the way open and needs to be banged to open
it the rest of the way. It acts, and the shined up areas on the brass make me think,
like the brass is stuck in the chamber and will not rotate with the bolt causing a
major timing issue.
The new brass that chambers measures .464 around the base and the resized
is .467 1/4" above the base. Is this a worn, out of spec or modified die problem or did the smith chamber it too small in diameter? I wanted it short to seat the 50 grain bullets I shoot out closer to the lands. Thanks guys.
