22 Birdshot question

Hey Guys,
I have a question about 22 birdshot. I attend a local meat shoot at a local VFW hall.
They use a single shot 22 cal rifle with bird shot. One shooter at a time everyone uses the same rifle, ammo is provided by the hall. Indoor shoot. It seems like the same guys are always competitive. Don't get me wrong I'm not claiming cheating or foul play just asking is there a trick to it? Everything seems to be even across the board. I just thought a bird shot pattern lime that would be random and just a lucky shot. Again I'm not accusing anyone of cheating at all, just asking is there is a trick to shooting 22 cal birdshot consistently.

These same guys been shooting in this same comp with the same gun and same shot shells for a long time? If so, they just know how that rifle is going to pattern with that shot. Try to get them to change rifles up.

Thanks, that is true most of these guys have been around awhile. I just need to spend more time and figure out how this rifle patterns....

That sounds like it would be fun.
But I would want to be able to use my rifle, that would take the advantage away.

I'd not act as if I were being presumptuous. They're probably cheating! Lol

I'm certain it's experience and repetition. You'll get there if you do it long enough.
