As title states, looking for a nice 22 for my wife. I shoot a Vudoo, but another Vudoo is not in the budget right now nor does she care about having one.

I was looking at the new Bergara BXR and CZ 457 models. I have a Bergara HMR Pro and it shoots lights out so thats why I am intrigued by the Bergara. I also had a CZ 452 LH that shot almost as good as the Vudoo.

Which would you go with and why? Or any other brands I should be looking at around the $600 range. Not interested in stock 10/22, Tikka T1x, Ruger Precision Rimfire, or any savage models. Thanks in advance.

If you're not chasing the best 22LR accuracy possible and want a fun gun, I'd build a 10/22 from parts. The advantage is that you get to pick the exact parts you want and control the budget to some extent. The bad thing is the plethora of options and the creeping cost to upgrade or initially buy "just a bit better". I stick with Feddersen bull barrels for the most part and spend the money for a Kidd trigger. I built one recently with those two components, a Brownell's receiver (on sale), factory Ruger bolt, and a Hogue over-molded stock. It's very close in accuracy to the 10/22s I have a *lot* more invested into. And it's always easy to upgrade components down the road.

Putting together a 10/22 from parts is easy... as long as you don't forget to order a part (as I have done... twice).

I’d build a KIDD 10/22 and call it a day. Ridiculous accuracy for a very reasonable price.

For a dead sexy bolt action at a somewhat reasonable price, the CZ 457 varmint trainer might fit the bill. I’m very partial to custom 10/22’s but this thing may be my next purchase. It gets some pretty good reviews on rimfirecentral.com.

Have your Wife make the choice, its going to be Hers. Do you really want a mad Wife who like to shoot?

You beat me to it. By all means let your wife make the choice. It has to suit her, not you.

This is the voice of experience speaking. I've probably been married longer than most of you on this forum have been alive and I have learned a wee bit about how to keep a wife in a good mood. I didn't say I have women figured out (no one has ever done that) , just that I've learned a little about them.

Good advice from everyone. Keep her happy and get her what she wants. If she does not know, get her something you will also like ?and keep trying. How can this be a bad? FWIW my wife prefers her 1022 over my vudoo but demands the best ammo for her rifle. Got a brick of Eley match for her and she is happy. The cost of my hobby has doubled but we are having fun together now that the kids are out of college and our finances are finally recovering.

I read that one. Sure hope I do not encounter that type of issue. I do not expect to, but if it does, I would just contact the manufacture. I work with manufacturers all the time at work. It's pretty rare when I encounter one that will not do their best to right a wrong when given proper support and a polite respectful tone.
