Thanks for the interest and I thought it best I move this off Nesikabay's formal match thread. I want to participate in whatever shoot he and Carter Mayfield put on. They both have a lot of match experience and I GOT NONE.
Having said that, I still want to put on a fun Saturday shoot for guys just to come out and have a fun day with 22LR's.
I have no idea exactly what I'll set up, but I guarantee it will be challenging and most of all FUN!! Dodging the "cow pies" will be a special treat in and of inself. LOL
Ok, this is what I have in mind: bring your 22 rifles and your 22 pistols.
I'll set up a COF that will require speed and accuracy both.
Pistol shots will be point blank to ??? maybe 50 yards. Some shots geared more towards rapid fire and other for pin point accuracy. Normal double handed grip, strong side only and weak side only.
For the rifles the COF will be 50-300 yards, with a special target at a distance beyond 300. Most targets postions will be prone with bipod or pack (some no rear rest and others rear bag allowed. I would expect some sitting, kneeling, and maybe even standing unsupported (no slings).
Targets will include some steel gongs, steel IPSC and other steel targets, some 22 silhouette 4 critter targets, stationary clay pidgeons of various sizes, a variety of paper targets, bowling pins, ballons, golf balls, and maybe a car hood or two. Yea CAR HOOD you know it is going to be waaaay out there.
For those who just have a need to compete for $$, there will be a "$$ shot". You pay into the pot only if want to and winner take all. It will be kinda like a hole in one contest or big bass contest. It won't be expensive, but you might win enough for gas money for the trip home.
I plan to personally offer up two prizes for the day.
One will be for "Top Shot" ok I stole it. Best overall performance during the day
The other will be based on several aspects including shooting ability, sportsmanship, character, and leadership. This is solely subjective and I may ask a few guys for help on this one.
The prizes are secondary to having a good time, but I promise they will be well recieved. They just add another demension of fun and help keep the competitive spirit alive. I would never give away a prize I would not want for myself. I sponsored and put on paintball tournaments for a while and I know how to select prize that people enjoy. Prizes will be shooting related.
Man, I am getting excited just typing this stuff up. Again, I really have no idea what this will end up looking like, but I can assure it will be some fun. This will not be a "FORMAL MATCH" by any stretch of the imagination.
Like everything it life, it must have a few rules. My house my rules. Pretty simple, but please be aware I am planning this for a fun and safe time for all who participate. I know we all come from different backgrounds and experience levels, but I want anyone who shows up to be comfortable and have a good time.
No alcohol allowed on the property - guns and booze don't mix IMHO
Empty chamber indicators in guns at all times except when on COF
Ear and Eye protection Mandatory
Release Waivers required - Same as at any range or match
You are responsbile for your actions, READ SAFETY ABOVE ALL ELSE
If you use tobacco, bring something to discard your butts in and your own personal spitoon
Clean up your own messes
You don't know me yet, but as a personal favor, I respectfully ask that you keep your language PG rated as much as possible. OK I said it the best I know how.
Pretty simple rules but these should make for a safe, fun and enjoyable Saturday shoot for all.
It will be held on a TBA Saturday, near Athens and that is about 75 miles east of Dallas. We will be about 6 miles out of town and I do have a house on the property and it has facilities.
This is how I am going to approach this so it stays manageable and fun. I think for this first trial "East Texas Gun & Fun" I need to limit it to a small number of shooters and see how it goes.
The first 10 guys that post "I'M IN" in this thread, will get get first chance to participate. If I see I can handle more, I will add some more spots. I just don't want to get so many that I can't have any fun myself. LOL
Maybe I am just thinking TOO BIG and there aren't 10 people here who want to go out and lay down a few 100 22 rounds on a Saturday.
Looking forward to your responses. I'll give it a few days and see where it goes. If I get 10 guys and/or gals fairly quick, I'll post potential dates and get started on the details. I am sure I will need some help with this so if you sign up and would like to help as well PM me.
Thanks again for your interest and yea I know I talk a lot.
