Has anyone tried shooting a 22 mag in a 223 with an adaptor shell kit? If so, what was the accuracy like? I ask because most .22 mag guns are a 1 in 16 twist while my Contender 223 barrel is 1 in 12 twist.

Please keep us posted on how she shoots.

It's been years but yes, 22 mag chamber adaptor and my super 14 .223 barrel. Accuracy, was typical 22mag as I recall, not bad, not great. Still have the adaptor but started doing .223 bluedot loads using light bullets and just quit using the adaptor..

Thank Schultz. I bought some H4895 to load up some reduced loads to follow your actions. I do wonder how you got the 22 mag. shell out of the adaptor though.
It was honestly a PIA. Would have been ok for survival or hunting as long as you didn't need a fast follow up shot!

Load the adaptor, insert 22m then fire. Break action, remove adaptor, set gun down and use a skewer, stick or the like to poke out the spent case, put down skewer, pick up gun, insert adaptor, insert fresh 22m, close action and 5 min later you're ready to shoot again:ROFLMAO:

Bluedot, will get you into 22m or even 22 hornet performance range, not sure H4895 is good choice for reduced loads. I've used plenty of it, NEVER for reduced loads this light...

I saved some reduced loads for 223 that I found but haven't tried any of them yet. One person said he was loading 23 grains of IMR 4895 and 40 and 45 grain bullets and getting 2500-2550 fps. Try at yor own risk I would suppose. The other was from Hodgton so it should be safe. 4 grains of Trail Boss with a 55 gr. jacketed bullet for 1074 fps. Right down there with SV 22 LR.
