i have a ar15 that i built that really likes 69 grain SMK's over wc844. The gun is used primarily by my girlfriend for long range shooting at TVP. If i was to develop a load for the 77 smk's what would be the benefit. i did some modeling with the JBM program and im only showing a 1.5-2 moa difference at 500 yards.

For me, 68-69 is as heavy as I prefer.
I think the 75-80 + loads can really shine, stuffed into a 22.250 with a 1/7 tube.
I feel (Opinion) 68/69 is ballence between velocity and B.C.

I run 77 smk's in my AR, they also shoot sub moa in a 1-9" twist Rem XCR compact tac. your rifle may stabilize em too.
If you shoot 500+ B.C. rules especially in the wind, plus much more retained energy for ringin steel or what ever you plan on killing.

thanks for the help. we usually shoot anywhere from 200 yards to 1165. We have made a hit on the 1k steel but took a few to hit it. I just loaded up some 77's that i had on hand. Whats a good velocity to aim for shooting beyond 500 yards.

Give it all it's got: It's a .223, and you will quickly run out of case capacity when loading the slow powerds for the heavy bullets.
And if its a gas gun you won't necessarily get reliable indications of excess pressure visible on the case, so if you start blanking primers back off half a grain.

i have a custom 21 3/4 inch barrel. messing with jbm it looks like if i can get around 2850 it will be real nice past 700.

All above refering to Sierra Match Kings.
Most of the 80's from various makers need 2800 FPS to remain stable out to 1000 yards.
The M262 load is a 77 grain loadis 2800 fps, rated out to 700 meters (770 yards). My match load is a 77 SMK at 2700 fps shot regularly out to 600 yards. My 1k load is a berger 80.5 at 2800 fps.
