223 ackley improved Redding dies

Hey all,
About to put together a 223 build and am being heavily talked into running 223 ackley by a trusted shooting buddy of mine who knows his stuff. Problem is I can only find the Redding 2 die set and he also tells me he’s had issues with getting the shoulder to bump back on this set. Curious if he is a sample size of 1 bad apple or if this is really something I should avoid getting? Anyone else ran Redding 223 ackley dies and had them work just fine? Generally I’ve always had good fortune with Redding

I had the same problem with my redding ackley dies. My solution was to thin the shell holder on a diamond stone until i got bump back of the shoulder. When I chambered that barrel I use JGS reamer and ackley go gage and a 223 go gage as the no go so I am at the tighter end of head space. The other way to deal with it is to trim a little off the die.

I have the Redding dies also. Same issue but I trimmed.010 off the bottom of the die and sizes perfect now with slight cam over. I believe it’s probably common bc I have a friend with same setup and same issue as well. Have someone trim 10-15 thousandths off the die and you be good to go

that's good to know, shame Redding didn't get it right the first time but glad there's a consistent fix for it. appreciate all your guys help and input!

Hey guys so I'm curious if you guys have had the same issue as me with a redding type s seating die for 223ai. It seems to be very inconsistent especially with the Berger LRHT 85.5, Sometimes I will have to run it through the die like 5 or 6 times to get it where it needs to be. Very annoying but luckily my custom made whidden seater die got shipped yesterday
