Rifle Scopes .223 bolt hitting rifle scope

First off, I'm new here but not new to a forum setting however... Had a question, wondering if anyone knows... I have a remington 700ADL chambered in .223 with a Nikon Monarch 4x16x42 mounted on with the Leopold mounts/rings that came with the rifle. Every time I open the bolt it hits the back lens of the scope... It BARELY and I mean withing millimeters BARELY hits and rubs up against it. If I were to open the bolt extremely carefully it probably wouldn't even hit it at all that's how much of a near miss it is but who wants to cycle rounds that slow ha... Anyways... will this ruin the scope over time at all? I don't believe it will but I'm new to scopes and would like the opinion of a more experienced scope user... Thanks in advance. Sorry for making it a story... lol

Depending on where it is the scope contacts the bolt handle, higher rings may help here.
Recommend rectifying the contact of the two. Not good for the scope or your fingers.

It contacts against about half way back on the adjustable lens. It rubs against the middle of the bolt handle. It doesn't SLAM into it or anything but it does rub a 'lil and it has rubbed a tiny bit of paint off the scope. I don't mind a little cosmetic rubbing like that but will it actually damage the internal parts of the scope?

I doubt it would damage the internals but it aint right.
Higher rings will fix it if the contact you describe is accurate.

Been down this road myself with a scope having a large ocular, in super low rings on a remington.

Ah ok thanks, man. I just don't wanna go out and spend $100 plus on new mounts/rings. I can deal with the tiny bit of cosmetic damage thats all fine with me i just don't wan't a brand new 450$ plus scope to be damaged internally. It has a full lifetime war. but still. If I were to buy new mounts/rings what would you suggest? I prefer good quality of course...

For a minimal investment, you could get the next higher set of Leupold rings and you should be GTG.

Yea I might just say fuck it and go ahead and do it as well as get a nice Harris bipod at the same time... Might as well. I need a rifle bench too lol... Man... I'll just get 'em all.

If it just barely touching try some electrical tape. Take the scope out of the rings, place some black electrical tape (adhesive to ring not scope) to each half of the ring, trim and put back together. This worked for me on CZ with low rings. If not I am afraid you need higher ones like has been mentioned. Good luck

Yea I'm probably just gonna go do it right and buy new rings. I have a .22LR that I can mount my old scope onto anyways.

No kidding. Lets make our rings smaller so the scope fits tighter. That is a great idea.

LOL... never heard of electrical tape being a solution for mounting a scope... I would steer clear of that advice, just me.
Buy higher based rings... figure out what height you have and go up one size.
