Hi everyone at SH,
First I will apologize because I am sure this has been covered in depth time and time again. I searched but came up empty.
I am not new to guns and hunting (mainly shotguns) but very new at sniping. I have a 10/22 that I have tons of fun plinking and modding. It wears a Tapco stock with red dot, laser, and light. I recently purchased a Savage 93R17 for practice doing some relatively long range shooting. It is about $.25/rd.
I am by no means an experienced shooter! Prone, with no bipod or bags I shoot 1.25-1.5" groups at 100yds with the .17hmr.
In regards to the .223/5.56; I was thinking of shooting either army surplus or cheap russian ammo. Paying more than $1/rd is out of the question for me. I dont have the tooling to load either...
Should I even bother purchasing a Rem 700 or AR to shoot super cheap ammo? I want to have something to shoot 200-500yds.
With the Rem 700, can it shoot 5.56 without an upgrade Wylde type bolt/action?
I want something that I can grow into. Budget is $1-1.3K with optics. But again, is it even worth buying to shoot junk ammo with? I know savage make some value .223's and that is an option for as well. I like the Rem 700 for aftermarket stuff for down the road mods.
I really appreciate the advice! I have learned a great deal from you guys here and am totally impressed by the skills and knowledge here!
