so i just got my RCBS AR Series Small Base 2-Die Set with Taper Crimp 223 Remington and Remington Bullets 22 Caliber (224 Diameter) 55 Grain Full Metal Jacket bullets. i deprime/resize the clean the primer pocket and chamfer and debur. i put in a new primer and charge it with 22g of H4198 and when i sit the bullet it falls right in. i measured the bullet and it comes out to .224 and then the neck was at .226 i start checking my other brass and it seems like they are all like that. is there something im missing here? i did go back and check some brass that had not been re sized and they measured at .226. any ideas?

Re: .223 reloading issues

Wow. I just bought a set of RCBS small base .223 dies but haven't tried them yet.

Obviously the neck was not resized at all or the expander ball is too large and resized the neck too much when it was pulled back through.

If it were me, I'd remove the expander ball and try again. If still not resizing correctly I'd double check the set up on the die in the press and whether it is far enough in the press (although this seems unlikely to be the problem).

I'm going to check my dies in the morning....

Good luck.

Re: .223 reloading issues

Sounds like your sizer is is not sizing the neck. Check your sizer and make sure you are not using a body only sizer. Either way your necks are staying at the size they expanded to when shot.

EDIT: Just went to look at the AR small base set and it appears to only be a 2 die set....taper crimp seater and FL sizer. Is it possible that you have set the die too shallow and you are never actually riding far en ough into the die to compress the neck? Or maybe you expander is too large and opening the neck back up too much? Are you feeling my resistance on the down ot up stroke of the press? Just some thoughts...

Re: .223 reloading issues

It happen to me when I first started reloading. (of course after I hand-trickled 20 cases of varget...lol)
Read the Die directions - then read them again.
My guess is the die was not set down far enough into the press...
