So looking at what to do with nearly new REM 700 barreled action ( bad barrel ) and a brand new 22 center fire CRB comp barrel. I have a new 223 rem long free just put together. I also have a 6 Creedmoor bolt gun. Looking for suggestions on a fun ( read crazy accurate/crazy fast) 22 cal rifle. It will be a range gun out to maybe 1000 yards. So feel free put forth suggestions.

EDIT: Desion made - Going 22 Creedmoor ( post 21)

I love my 22 Creeds, and to push heavy for cal they are the way. But they'll never beat 22-250 (especially AI'd) for fun and speed on the lighter stuff. Which direction between them would just depend on twist.

Edit: the loads I speak of are hot. Top of the pressure curve is consider, work up.

My first 22creed barrel with alpha brass, RL26 and 85rdfs was 3400 for 900 rounds before it petered out.

This second barrel is for occasional prs use and Im using 90smks and I got it to 3300 with rl26 but never went higher to find pressure before I backed down to prs speed limit at ~3190. Im now out of rl26 and using h4350, 39gr is going 3190 is starting to show pressure signs with 90smks. H4350 is probably more appropriate with the lighter 70gr class bullet.

In any case, the 22 creed with a heavy 22 cal bullet and a magnum powder is pretty awesome.

+1 22 creed with a magnum powder and heavier bullets. My 26" 22 creed is doing 3225fps with an 85.5gr and N565.

If you don't use slower powders for other things and your more in the Varget to h4350 range the 22 BR/BRA/Dasher with 80-90s might be a better fit

Excellent thank you. If I go this direction i will probably use 4350 as I have a bunch. Have you tried Berger 85s?

I havent, I just buy a lot of 1k bullets and pull the barrel when Im out of them, so Ive only played with the rdf and smk in the chambering so far. Barrel life isnt long enough for me to consider too much tinkering for experiments sake like on my 223.
People love their bergers, I bet they would be a great bullet for the chambering.

    7 or 8 twist?

Anyone try and N555? Running a slower speed around 28-2900 fps using the 22 creed.
I’ll be running exclusively N555 on my 22Creed
So far very promising at 42.3gr with the 80.5 Berger - 3175FPS out of a brand new 18in tube. It’s 100%case fill, no compression, 100% burn, SD of 5-6 fps out of an old charge master. Brand new Alpha OCD SRP

I’m a little worried about my first barrel which is a 7tw, I hope the 80.5 Berger and the 77TMKs will stay together but I wouldn’t be surprised if the ELD-M separates.
This is for a lightweight hunting rifle so it’ll be a low round count rifle.
I also have a Heavy varmint Benchmark 7.5tw inbound for my ARC CDG. This one I will shoot heavily and probably start preordering my next barrel this spring.

I went with 7 but 8 should be fine too.
IMO if your bullets come apart at 350,000 rpm, you need a better bullet.
I thought 300K was the magic number which kind of puts you in the danger zone at 3K FPS out of a 7tw.

Regardless, I don’t shoot ELD-Ms except out of a 223 rem. But isn’t blowing up bullets more of a Hornady issue than Berger. I can’t recall Bergers hybrids or 80.5 blowing up in matches but I’ve been kind of out of the loop
