I'm looking for another silencer, this time for a .22LR. One dealer in town has the TBAC 22L in stock for $495 (RangerWalker71, from whom I bought my TBAC 30P-1 has the 22L for $425 delivered), and another dealer has a Silencerco .22LR can in stock for less than $300.

Is one clearly superior in terms of effectiveness and durability? Is there another brand at which I should be looking?

The suppressor would be used on a Ruger 10/22 and possibly a pistol.

Thank you,
Richard

I got the Silencerco Sparrow 22 can and I really love it. Comes apart easily for cleaning, multi caliber rated and pretty dang quiet. Like movie suppressor quiet. I am running it on a 10-22 takedown, a Ruger SR22 pistol, and a Marlin 17VS. It was $379 through the Silencer Shop in Austin and they had a bunch in stock. If being rated for multiple calibers doesn't interset you, take a look at the new 22 can from Yankee Hill. I've always been impressed with their products, they make excellent and sturdy products for a reasonable price. Their new can has the same features (single stack baffle tube and dissasembly) but is only rated for .22 and is under $300 from that same store. If it was out a year ago when I bought mine, I would have looked hard at it.

My personal preference is for my 22LR cans to be user serviceable which is why I went with a Silencerco Sparrow SS. It is not the quietest 22LR suppressor on the market. I did a side by side this weekend with a buddies AAC Element and it was quieter than my Sparrow. It is a sealed unit however. TBAC makes great cans also, but the 22S-1 and 22L-1 are also sealed units. The Silencerco Spectre II and Warlock are also user serviceable, but a little less expensive than the Sparrow.

The Element 2 is not a sealed unit. Element 2, Sparrow, Tactical Solutions Axiom, spectre 2 are all good cans. The Axiom is super quiet, comes apart easily, and about $200 less than the Element 2. It just doesnt get the advertising of the other manufactures.

After reading myself to death I finally decided to go with the Spectre 2. Sealed is a no go for me on a .22, so TBAC is out. The first round pop of the Sparrow was what turned me off of it. I finally narrowed it down to the Spectre 2 because the price is outstanding and I plan on buying a PS90 one day. The only complaint I have about the Spectre 2 is the thread design. I'll happily get over it.

Spectre 2 is cheap, serviceable, very quiet w/little frp, and 5.7 rated. If the other guys would meet those standards, I don't know if I could ever pick one.

I would actually rather a .22 can that doesn't come apart assuming it is made of a material that can easily be cleaned. So many people have trouble getting suppressors apart and I don't want to deal with it. The tbac is a titanium suppressor that can be dipped to be cleaned and done. No need to disassemble it to clean it. Also, as long as you don't just shoot a crazy amount, you can send it back to tbac to be cleaned for free once a year. If you shoot more than that just clean it yourself. I have a 22L and another 22L almost out of ATF purgatory and would buy them all over again. They both came from ranger walker as well.

Spectre II. Quiet. Little to no FRP. The CTA baffles make it super-easy to disassemble, and they're SS so you can toss em in a tumbler and clean em without needing a hazmat suit.

Apparently it's a tad too heavy for an Advantage Arms Glock conversion. I'll know more about that when I can finally put mine through its paces... For your applications, it should work great.

I really like my Spectre II, going to pick up another one or a Sparrow as one 22 can is not enough. I've heard most of the popular 22 cans shot side by side at demo shoots and they all are fairly close. Ease of disassembly and cleaning of both the Sparrow and Spectre are very easy.

my TBAC 22L-1 has no FRP, is built with top materials and craftsmanship, and at 4.1 ounces is more than 2 ounces lighter than the sparrow SS and Spectre II. it also has TBAC's impeccable customer service behind it, should you ever need it.

its absolutely amazing on pistols and terrific on a rifle when shooting with subsonic ammo.

that being said, if i were to ever purchase another 22lr can, i would go for something a bit different and get the Thompson Machine CHD.

Hunter town arms suppressor has worked really really well for me. I am up to about 5000k rounds of sub sonic threw it. The are 200 bucks. My dealer still has not received my 30-p1 purchase for the January group buy. When did you get yours.

If you get a chance take a look at our SF Ryder 22-A. They are shipping to dealers right now from the SHOT show orders. I know 200 of them are going out to Silencer Shop tomorrow. 3.1 oz and Silencer Shop just did sound testing this past Tuesday and will have their sound testing video out soon. They recorded 117 db at the muzzle on a CMMG AR .22LR with CCI standard velocity. Mark said it was the quietest 22 suppressor he has recorded to date.
