I have a tikka t1x 22 in 22lr with a 25 moa dip rail and a athlon midas tac 4-16 on top thar was sighted in at 50 yards, but was running out of scope adjustment at 385 yards with subsonic match ammo, so I put some Burris signature rings set for around another 40 moa of cant and I’m around 1 mil high at 50 yards with my scope bottomed out. So I’m trying to figure out if I should use different shims in the rings and lose some elevation adjustment or just zero it at a longer range? Thanks.

Yeah I think you could just remember to use that hash mark and be good. Then just use every mark under as a holdover. You zero into a calculator should be no different.

But I would say also get some more opinions. I have not done it my self but in theory it seems like it should work.

Worst is go to the range and try it. If it works great. If not you’re no worse off.

1mil offset should not be bad. If you have a clear aiming point in the reticle, you will get used to it.

The only problem is that you do not have solid center of POA for ranges near 50, say you wanted to hit 60yds. You have to hold(under) around 3 tenths.
    70yds is around 0.7mil

Roughly at around 77yds (converting metrics), in my head) you will get to the center of reticle and have solid clicks to turn.

That is it, you could maybe shim it if you have now plenty of elevation but otherwise I'd stick with it.

So you now have 65 MOA?

My son in-law and I shot 401 yards Thanksgiving weekend. I have a 20 Moa rail NF NX8 4 X 32x MilC, 50 yard zero. My scope bottomed out at 19 mils, backed off to 17 mils held 5.4, total 22.4 mils with the MilC reticle.

Aaron's rifle no rail, NF 4 X 32x MilXt reticle, bottomed out at 12 mils, held 12.5, total 24.5 mils.

30 moa rail or rail/ring combo should easily get you to 400

Take 10 moa out of your rings. With 40 moa in rings, means you have 2 sets of 20 moa inserts. change the set in back ( or front ) to a 10 moa. set.

10 MOA is 5" at 50 yds. That is 2.8 mils at 50yds. you would lose about 1.8 mils. I am not a Mils guy, all my scopes are moa. I hope my conversion are correct. How many mils does your scope have? My Bergara B14R has a Vortex Viper HST is at the bottom at 50 yds and is 0.3" high, I can live with that. I have the full range 65 MOA.
