About to start a new precision AR build in 6.5 Grendel (I want this to be a 600yd+ gun). Local shop has both a Keiger and Satern Grendel barrel in stock. Both include headspaced bolts. I can't make a decision, and here's where I'm stuck:
Kreiger:
+1 Lighter (Custom profile: .875" dia. behind gas block, .750" gas block to muzzle)
+1 $150 cheaper than the Satern
Satern:
+1 Could be more accurate (Heavy profile, fluted, .936 at the gas block)
+1 "Unique" factor (Satern doesn't make the Grendel barrels anymore)
My main question is how much improvement will be had from the heavy profile of the Satern over the Krieger at 600-1000yrds?
Two things to note:
1. The twist rates are 1:8 (Krieger) and 1:8.75 (Satern); and
2. The weight difference is about .75lbs--primary use of the gun will be from the bench; however, I'd like to use it to hunt on occasion (not sure the weight is significant enough to matter).
