Started working on a load for wifes rifle.
Once fired FL sized brass
H414 powder
Hornady 100GR PSP bullets
Win Primers
Gun shot like shit because I was getting velocity spreads 175 to 250 FPS Labradar.
Never seen any spreads like that in anything I've loaded.
Checked for carbon ring and nothing there.
Any ideas?

was it cold out when you fired these? ball powders do weird things when it gets cold, magnum primer could help but h4350 would be easier

imr4451 is what I use, roughly H4350. Ball powders generally are for velocity more than accuracy, not saying they cant do great things but it is a bit more of a struggle.

Other thing, what was the case fill like?

To be honest with you I'm not sure.
This is a hunting rifle so I'm not looking for a .25 moa load.
Do you think the powder is the cause for the crazy velosity swings.

what charge did you use?

powder or case fill could be the problem. H4350 should fix the problem, but given state of everything I understand wanting to use H414

Started at 37.8 GRS and shot groups up to 39.3 GRS.
40 is max
I don't mind changing powders at all. I just had 2 LBS of 414 laying around and thought I would use it. I have plenty of 4350.
It listed 414 in my loading manual and on the powder jug.

Given the Hodgdon data velocity and charge weight vs some of the extruded powders, you likely have low case fill. Switch to h4350 and be happy.

Brux :are you using the same headstamps on your brass ?
Are you using CBTO or COAL in your load development ?

Did you analyze the data on the target or just the Labrador? I don’t have a Labrador so IDK shit about fuck there. I’ve heard stories of them breaking or just not working as they should.

I’ve got a 100g BTSP load w H414 if you would like it.

I’m just curious how those groups looked.

My groups were terrible even for a hunting rifle, But when your averaging around 200FPS difference with the same load what do you expect.
I guess part of me was hoping the load shot. Hate to watch a guy burn through powder in times like these.

I’ve seen guys change Primers, is that an option for you?

But 1lb goes a long way in a hunting load. I hope you find your node.
