Chrono took a dump before I could get good data on a new set up. I am running a 24in 10 twist 243 shooting the 95gr berger vld. Anyone shooting a similar setup? What velocities are you getting?

243 Winchester case
BR 2 primer
44.5 gr H4831

Thanks in advance.

Tag.

I'm also interested in the 95 gr. vld.

My .243 10 twist load now:
45 gr. H4350, CCI 200
Lapua cs, 26" bbl
80 gr. bal. tip. @ 3360fps

Re: 243 velocity

10 twist may be too slow for the 105's.

I haven't tried any other bullets with this set-up yet and I think the 95's would be a better choice for me. My son has a .243 sps v and shoots tight groups with the 95 bergers.

Re: 243 velocity

The load I am running with the 95gr berger is awesome! They stay around .5 moa sometimes a little more sometimes a little less. I have trouble with better even when the rifle is better, ha. The Amax did group for me....but was around 1 moa. I am going to try and speed it up a little and play with the seating depth to see where that lands me.

Re: 243 velocity

Just to put my 2 cents in... I shoot a 9.25 twist and it will just handle the 105 Amax even at my altitude. I'm afraid the 10 twist won't be able to do much with it and especially at your lower altitude. I plan to get something faster twist when this barrel goes away just to play with them more. As for mine, with a full dose of 4831 and a CCI LRP I'm getting between 3030 and 3050 fps.

Re: 243 velocity

I am new to this forum and this is my first post, just started reloading this past spring. I have developed a load with the 95 VLD in .243 and am only getting 2820 FPS, Lapua brass, Win LR, and about 44.3 of H4831SC. I shoot routinely at .377 inches for a three shot group at 100 yards, the rifle is a 24 inch barrel Remington 700. I was disappointed with the velocity but can not complain about the accuracy. I just started reloading my 7MM Rem Mag and am using the 168 grain Bergers loaded with 65.3 Grains of IMR 7828 SSC, I am getting a velocity of 2900 but I have a Wichester 70 with a BOSS on it and am shooting .580 three shoot groups with it at 100 yards.

Re: 243 velocity

If you can get the 105 Amax to stabilize, try them 0.010" off the lands with a soft load to start. That will tell you within 5 rounds if your twist rate will work or not.

From there you want to work up, potentially a slower powder than 4831 on the 105's but YMMV. RL25 or H1000 would be on my list because of the overbore ratio you have in a 243. With only 24" to accelerate them you might not get the speed from slower powders because the barrel isn't long enough.
