LAFAYETTE, ID, 7/11/2022
25 year old Nick Bostic was driving down a Lafayette street in the predawn hours of July 11, 2022 when he saw a house almost fully engulfed in fire. Without hesitation, he ran inside, grabbed four occupants and carried them out to safety before one of the children told him that their 6 year old sister is not in the group. Bostic ran back inside the burning home and found the 6 year old girl on the second floor and jumped from a window while carrying the little girl in his arms, using his own body to shield her from the shock as he hit the ground. By the time police and firefighters got to the scene, all occupants of the house, as well as Bostic were safely outside, although Bostic suffered smoke inhalation and concussion.
Bodycam footage from first arriving police officer captures the moment when Bostic leaps from burning second floor window with the final occupant of the engulfed house, before collapsing from exhaustion:
"The baby is okay, you did good dude", a police officer told Nick Bostic as he lay on the ground with smoke inhalation and concussion after leaping from a second story window to save one last child trapped in burning house. Even through his pain, Bostic frantically asked emergency personnel if the children were safe.
