I’ve tried searching “25x284” but can’t find anything in regards to barrel life. I know the 6.5x284 is in the 1000-1500 round camp but what would be expected for the 25 cal version using the 131gr blackjack bullets? Trying to push them ~3150

If you’re interested, just do it!

I’m tinkering with a 25 PRC right now. 131BJ at 3200 doesn’t seem to be too hard on things just yet. High end loads are 100 FPS faster. We’ll see. Like Steel head said, it’ll be fun while it lasts.

6.5/284 pushing 140s hard (3100+ish) back in the day (early-mid 2000s) barrel life was more 8-900, eased up a little bit 2975-3025 and got to 1100ish rd bbl life. That was F-open accuracy requirement.
25 cal pushing 131 @ 3150 ish, I’d plan for 7-800 rd bbl life. If you get more, ???.
Really depends on what you consider end of bbl life, accuracy requirement & at what distance.

Yeah, it's a wicked overbore no different than the 25-06. Keep the 131 Ace at about 2940 7 or 7.5 twist. I know people are getting much higher velocity than that but it is not mandatory.

Speed costs money. How much do want to spend?
Anything 6.5 and smaller in that case capacity and you're looking at less than a 1000 rounds. You can't fool Mother Nature.
I hear the 6.5saum is getting 2000+, almost twice what the 6.5x284 would get, so I didn’t know how that would translate for the 25SAUM, would it be in the 1500+ range or is it basically the same as the 25x284.

I guess barrel life depends on your accuracy requirements. Best accuracy out of a 6.5-285 is 1000 rounds. Maybe less. I've been building hot 6.5's since the mid 90's. Nothing has changed in the last 30+ years.

Have you checked out their FB page?
Yes

so are you saying in your experience, based on one having the same standard for accuracy between the two(25x284 and 25SAUM), that their accurate barrel life is roughly the same?

Once again, thank you all for the replies and insight!

25/284 will have slightly less bbl life than a 6.5/284, same amount of powder down smaller bore = faster throat erosion, fire cracking, barrel wear.

They are both abusive rounds. There's a lot of variables in defining barrel life. Rate of fire, cleaning regime, ones ability to manage heat checking, etc. All have an affect on barrel life.

OP, if you have to ask then...

My only 6.5-284 barrel started going at 800 rounds. Then I sold my 6mm-284 barrel at 250 rounds, lol.

A light low pressure load/sub 55,000 estimated, in 6.5 Saum was my answer. Shooting fantastic at 800 ish right now, fingers crossed!

If I could chamber my own barrels, fantasizing here.
