Curious all the posts on the '47' and figuring many are running a pretty good pressure given speeds vs. rounds w/larger capacity.

What kind of speeds are you guys running in the shorter barrels up to 22" and what bullet weights/powders.

Re: 260 performance in shorter barrels

My shooting partner just had a .260 built with a Krieger 4 groove 8 twist tube, cut and crowned at 20". Chamber was done with a PT&G match reamer with .060 freebore and .297 neck.

Berger 140 gr VLD behind RL17 near or just above max, Rem brass, CCI 200 primers .005 in the lands, 2650 fps and .25 MOA.....

I had mine cut crowned at 26" with a Krieger 5R 8 twist, same chamber and will be running the same projectiles. The barrelled action just got back from the smith yesterday. Need to do all the finish work, painting, bedding, etc, then work up a load for it. Once it's all dialed in I plan to have it cut to 24", then 22" and dependant on velocity, 20"... I was unable to find solid data for the .260 in regards to barrel length so I figured I would come up with my own.

Re: 260 performance in shorter barrels

I am breaking 2800 fps using 140gr Berger Hybrids with my 22" .260. Phenomenal accuracy as well. RL-17 was the key.

AINA 1 in 8 Bartlein on my AIAX.

21.5" recoil lug to crown 1-8.5 Bartlein 5R:

Black Hills Gold 139 Scenar, 2750fps

RP brass, 140 Hornady bthp, 43.6gr H4350, 2800fps

Re: 260 performance in shorter barrels

Just found a group I saved. Obviously I'm not going to claim that I can shoot this good all the time, but I actually shot a smaller group than this during load development and had sessions where the average 5 shot group size was in the .3's

Re: 260 performance in shorter barrels

22.5" bartlein, 1-8, 130vld,45.9gr h4350, col 2.885, 3000fps across an oehler. This load has shot 3/8ths since the begining. It did it last saturday again. I think the load can do better but I can't. The barrel is just under 1800 rounds.

What brass?

I used to seat a 130gr VLD to 2.94" OAL (0.010" jump) with Lapua brass and 44.5gr H4350 got me 2975fps and great accuracy from a 1:8 26" barrel but a pretty shiny ejector swipe.
