So,

I have been doing a lot of research lately, and it seems that the Grendel has close to the muzzle velocity as the .260, in a smaller, lighter, less expensive package.

I don't know a ton about the caliber, but it seems to be a pretty attractive option... and makes me second guess my recent .260 purchase.

Am I missing something?

Fill me in.

Re: .260 rem vs 6.5 grendel

Ok, cool. It's just that I have seen some low velocities from the gas .260's (some as low as 2550 or so, which seems crazy low) and some high velocities from the grendel (2650 with 123 Scenars.)

I guess I won't know 'til I chrono mine, it just seemed like it was getting close on paper!

I agree Mike. 2800 would be awesome. Mine is a GAP Ar-10 with a 24" barrel, but I will be cutting it to 20-22".

Re: .260 rem vs 6.5 grendel

I have both and love both, but two different animals. I build a lot of 6.5 grendels and have both gas gun and bolt guns in .260.

On an AR platform, one fits on a standard AR15 lower and the 260 fits on the AR10. I sell uppers for folks who can't afford a new rifle, but want to stick with their small framed AR.

If you know how to drive them, either will work well out to 1000yds.

I decided it wasn't really what I was looking for though (a long, heavy, unwieldy platform) and that with .260 I was making too many compromises by the time I chopped it down to the length I wanted (16-18") so I sold it.

I wish I could do that with mine.
2600fps is what I get from the 139 and 2850 for the 123.
Anything faster than that will blow primers.
