Gunsmithing .260 ruptured case extraction

Re: .260 ruptured case extraction

Should work fine.

Do you have a 45 auto brush or a 16ga shotgun brush? You might try taking one of those and stuffing it into the ruptured case, then slightly pull backwards to get the brush to stick in the case, then 'pop' the rod handle to get the case out.

Re: .260 ruptured case extraction

If the gun is disabled waiting for an extractor I've used epoxy to get a seperated case out. Muzzle down seal the neck of the case with a plug (cotton ball). Mixed some JB Weld, used a straw to suck some up and then fill the case carefully, not getting it anywhere in the action. A few hours later (overnight), knocked it out with a wooden dowel from the muzzle. Worked on a seperated case in a sizing die too.

If you use the same epoxy trick you can stuff the brush in from the back. let it cure, then yank it out.

I pulled many a stuck cases out of M4's/AK's this very way in Iraq.

Haji shops always had little tubes of the stuff. They prolly thought I brushed my teeth with it.

Good luck

Success!!!! Have to show some pics.

This one was a real bitch.

Tried oversized brushes, purchased a extractor from brownells, nothing would work.

Finally said screw it and stuffed a swab into the neck and carefully made a JB weld plug behind it inside the case. Let it sit all day and just now tapped it out. Thank you all for the kind suggestions. Maybe this tread can help out others in the future.

Re: .260 ruptured case extraction

A round rat tail file works as well. Run it into the case and twist. It will bite into the sidewalls of the case. Then clamp on the handle with a set of pliers and tap the pliers with a hammer. I done many times and seen it done many many times at the range. Standard equipment on most of the 1k Yd. Br ranges I shoot on for serperated cases.

No need to remove the barrel.
