Is anyone messing around with this, or researching it?

Basically a 6.8 in a 223 case, same principal as 300 Blackout. Same bolt face, magazines, etc. Just a barrel swap.
Ballistics appear to be 80-90% of the 6.8 SPC. Also there are savage prefit offerings.

Looks very interesting for a midway point between the 223 and 300 blackout. I almost pulled the trigger on the 300 but it just doesn't fit my needs.

Your in the same boat as the 300BO. You have to cut & trim Brass to hand load your own from .223 Brass . Where as the 6x45 is the king, and .25x45 is faster . All with just simple Neck-up on the Brass and then Load and shoot .
If your going for pure Sub. Vel. out of a SBR, then the 300BO is better than the Wolverine .
.

ive been wanting to build one for a few years now,
seems like a pretty good round, and yes you can make your own, but they do sell stamped brass and factory ammo for it, have for awhile now
i m going this route vs the blackout simply because it seems to have more supersonic ooomph, and can still shoot subsonic, if you want it more for subs, the blackout will probably be better
on the whole the .277 just peaks my interest more.
good luck

Dont get me wrong. Not trying to talk you out of it . I still shoot and shot 30-221 (30BO) for more than 20 years . But the newer saami spec'ed 300Bo leaves much more to be desired for terminal energy out of a piece of 556 brass . I got no problems playing with 223 brass and necking up or down .but in the end I chose a .25 x 45 (25 sharps) .. So I guess the biggest thing was the little work involved in Brass prep. with Handloading the .25x45 . plus also getting very good Vel. with 87 grn bullets @ 2800+ fps out 16" AR

the 277 wolverine looks good and the high Vel. loads also and that is Big plus+ for sure over the BO Round . You will never squeeze more than low 2400's fps Vel.out of a .30BO Handload . even 200 or 300 FPS more improvement on Vel. is a good improvement hunting .
it should also function well though any standard AR Magazine . When moving the .277 wolverine into a standard shortaction 'bolt action' it will feed and extract great, where as the 30-221/30 Bo is total unreliable feed extract unless you move it into a micro shortaction . That short Case and that tiny little shoulder of the 30BO just adds problems to the equation AR and boltaction .

277 wolverine & Subsonic factory . I am just curious ? Have you checked yet on which position the gas block is set-up on the barrel of the .277 Wolverine ? If they are working with a reliable extraction ( dual roll ) off both a Sub.Velocity Round & High Vel. in a AR15 . Are they pushing a ( pistol position ) gas block and tube set-up on there barrels like the 30-BO .

edit add: ( I assuming they are ) just asking on the pistol position Gas Block because I just find it dirtier and louder with running suppressed . rather than moving it up and away from the chamber on an AR .

I went ahead and ordered a 277 wolverine barrel from Mark at MDWS. 18" SPR, 1:11, mid gas length. I've spent the last month reading every thread I could about it and so far it looks good for what I want to do. I hunted this year with a 300 BO and it just didn't get me riled up. Sold it a few days ago to fund this build. I debated for a while, I originally was looking at a 6.8 SPC build but decided to try this first.

To me, the heaviest weights of the 6x45 and the 25x45 you can sling aren't enough for my liking. I'm hunting 200 yards and less, not so much paper punching.
