KUDOS and credit to Maryland's hometown 2A activism group Maryland Shall Issue, and gun vendor Atlantic Guns, who were the plaintiffs behind the original 2016 lawsuit that led to today's decisive smackdown delivered by Judge Julius Richardson of the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals.
The wheels of justice may turn slowly, but in Richmond today, they turned as surely as ever. A decisive conclusion by 4th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Julius Richardson struck down a kneejerk Maryland law passed by Democratic leadership in the wake of the 2012 Sandy Hook shootings that required Maryland residents to apply for a special license and undergo a four hour "safety" class as well as a waiting period as long as 30 days for the license approval process before they can purchase a handgun. The 4th Circuit Court found that this rule VIOLATED the basic tenets of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and subjected Maryland citizens who are facing imminent threats of violence from gangs and attempted home invaders to potential serious bodily harm and death by delaying their ability to acquire handguns to protect themselves and their families. It was also found out over a course of research in the process of this lawsuit that the 2013 licensing law and handgun purchase waiting period did almost NOTHING to prevent violent crime or deter potential terroristic assailants from obtaining weapons if they were determined to, but only placed needless and arduous restrictions on hardworking and law abiding people.
In the meantime, Maryland's Democratic governor Wes Moore expressed dismay at today's smacking down of one of the most crucial pieces of Maryland's antigun tyranny, vowing to "review" the case again and appeal the 4th Circuit Court's ruling.
