Similar to Livingston County, which last April passed a resolution naming it what’s been dubbed a Second Amendment Sanctuary, Holton’s resolution declares the township will not enforce red-flag laws restricting gun and ammunition possession.

“Whereas, the Holton Township Board declares and confirms to express its intent to stand as a Sanctuary Township for Second Amendment rights, and to oppose, within the limits of the Constitution of the United States and the Commonwealth of Michigan, any efforts to unconstitutionally restrict such rights,” the resolution reads.

The board’s resolution also included an addendum to form a militia.

The Militia Public Security Act states the township is adopting “policies necessary for the security and rights of Holton Township residents.”

Legal residents of Holton Township with primary residency in the township are eligible to join the militia and may make their intentions known by acknowledging their intent on social media, explicitly telling friends or family members they wish to join, or stating their intent by letter to the Township Militia.

Several restrictions are explicitly stated in the addendum, including:

Candidates must be over the age of 18.

Candidates must pass a federal firearms background check.

Resident not desiring to be in the militia are not required to join.

Federal law trumps state law. (No pun intended)
Well when federal law is selectively enforced in order to ensure the hegemony of a single political party made up primarily of filthy commies...

Then one needs to remember that The Constitution trumps illegal laws that infringe on a citizen's natural rights.

When there are two systems of justice, there is no system of justice.

    Well said sir, well said.

We, the people, need a refresher on natural rights. It is a forgotten concept, taught by only the most eclectic ethics and political philosophy college-level classes instead of the broad social studies or civics high school-level classes that everyone should attend.

I guess natural rights is a concept that assumes a higher level of existence beyond humanity, i.e. a God. It assumes this higher level of existence demands a certain set of values that all humans are bound to, in order to enjoy these natural rights. And this concept is also in the process of being put into dust-bin. It shouldn't be this hard, it should be something we all agree on, but nope, its not, so it is hard and therefore left out of mainstream education these days. The "Go Hamas!", "Al Qaeda Wasn't That Bad" crowd we are now witnessing is the result.

Congratulates to Michigan for getting this sanctuary status in place. As a citizen of the Commonwealth of VA, I have seen first hand how much of a difference this status makes on the local and state levels. The natural rights grabbers have to think twice or thrice about grabbing another of our freedoms.

Theres still a perfectly acceptable form of justice unfortunately most of the country isnt willing to go there

Unless it's weed. Then 420 til your heart's content...

Or entering the country illegally. Or peacefully protesting in DC. Or stuffing ballot boxes. Or buying a gun while on crack and lying on your form. Or accepting bribes. Or making up Intel document to try and unseat a President. Or looting stores. Or accepting foreign donations. Or selling guns to cartels. Or hiding your college records. Or murdering your chef. Or murdering 75 other people including your chief of staff.

I could go on…. But folks probably see the dichotomies by now.

ASGH. But can’t hurt to remind the world…

Unfortunately it’s not Michigan, as in the state of Michigan that has it right. Current politics in Michigan are so far left that they don’t even reside in the same plane as actual residents in that state. That’s why a township found it necessary to create a 2A sanctuary. To protect its citizens from the state.

Only when federal law is limited to asserting powers delegated to Congress defined by the Enumerated Powers (Article 1, Section 8) or any other section or clause.

All else is an assertion of power prohibited to Congress and is rightfully among powers of the states and people respectively. This was a concept that is inferred within the Constitution itself, but thought to be so important that it was reiterated in the 10th Amendment.

Michigan has been purple for nearly my entire adult life due to the usual concentration of liberal voters in a few urban areas plus the current trend for middle-aged suburbanites to vote against anything associated with Trump. The MI GOP has been terminally stupid for about as long - they think it's still possible to ride decades-old demographics and historical voting patterns into office and have offered nothing resembling a vision for the state beyond gargling the balls of whatever Republican is presently the leading presidential candidate. Combined, you get the present state of affairs which really doesn't represent the population as a whole.

Article I Section 6 of our state constitution declares the right to bear arms, but I cannot recall the last time anyone on either side mentioned this document so it's pretty much irrelevant at the moment. We might as well print it up on doormats and place them at the entrance to the capital, but that'd probably be regarded as a terrorist act at the moment.

Holton Township won't have accomplished anything with this task other than securing that area's reputation as one of many places that would be a real bitch for any opposing force to pacify.
