Gentlemen-- Thought I would pass along some info about a modified 3 gun match just north of Orange Va. I know its short notice but it looks like it might be fun and it is a benefit event for Wounded Warriors. The price is right too! See below for more details. Bolt gun should be about 40 rounds. Don't know about pistol/shotgun.

On may 28th 2010 my partner was notified that one of his eagle scouts had been killed in marjah, Afghanistan Lance Cpl. Philip P. Clark, 19, of Gainesville, Fla.. he was in the 3rd battalion 6th marines india company. That is bad enough news… and then he told me that this latest casualty represented number six (6) out of eleven (11) of his scouts that had given their lives for our country.

By now many of us know a relatives or friends that have given their lives for our country. We felt we needed to take action and do something to represent our thanks and support to the families of these men and help in one of the only ways we can.

Basicblack has scheduled four events in 2010 to raise money to benefit wounded warriors. Look for these events on www.woundedwarriorproject.org or at www.basicblack.us and please support the wounded warrior project generously.

This is definitely a great cause and I am looking forward to seeing you guys there. Sounds like a good time for those close enough to get there short notice. $20 bucks is nothing to get a chance to burn some ammo at a new place for a change, guys. I hope to see a bunch of you guys out there.

Last questions. Do you have the round count for pistol and shotgun? Will there be a need for any slugs or will it all be shot?

HEY, SORRY FOR THE DELAY OF GETTING ON HERE... PISTOL RD COUNT 18 - 23RDS, SHOTGUN RD COUNT 30RDS. 3 SLUGS. I SUGGEST TO BRING 100RDS FOR EACH EVOLUTION [EXCEPT SLUGS] MAYBE BRING 12 SLUGS. FOR THE LONG GUN SEGMENT I'D PLAN FOR 50 RDS. THX. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.

Thought I would post a quick AAR for all those who didn't make it. First thing is first though, so I would like to send Steve and crew a big thank you from the WV boys(especially from myself)for the hospitality and opportunity to share a fun day of shooting on your place.

The match
1 course of fireistol 35 rds total
1 course of fire:shotgun 33rds total
2 precision rifle positions with 17 total targets(one 5rd group 7/10 split on targets)

The pistol course(shot with an unlimited count) began sitting in a SUV with a 3 plate rack at about 5 yards off the passenger side with an open window. Pistol was in the closed glove box, unloaded with a loaded mag seated. At the start you began with hands on the steering wheel and engaged the 3 plates to your rt. You then exit the vehicle and engage a 6 plate rack at about 5-7 yards. From there you move about 15 yards across a ditch and engage a cluster of 3 IPSC silhouette targets with 2 rounds each in the A/B zone. there are 3 more clusters of 3 bad guy targets(one with a no shoot, and one half covered bad guy), with the last targets being about 30 yds away.

For the shotgun course there were many targets. There were fixed steel plates and dangling small road cones engaged from both stationary and moving positions. The last 3 rounds were slug targets shot at about 40-50 yds away. The course of fire began with 2 rounds in the gun and then a single quick load target engaged with 1 round. Targets were shot with basically a limited Vickers count having 2 rounds each to hit the last 3 targets. post and cord "barracades" were used to locate each target scenario, and required a mix of standing and kneeling positions.

Rifle targets were known distance, and allowed two shots at steel for a score of 2,1,or 0 depending on if you hit the first or second round or pulled maggies drawers. The rifle course at one position started with a group shot on a playing card at 187yds(thanks Brock) and then we engaged 6 more targets that were about MOA in size from 225yds out to about 450yds. There was a couple of MGM floppers, 2 5x7" swinger, A U.S. Popper, and a Larue silhouette that I recall. The second position involved shooting across a large pond. The first target engaged was a mini-popper at 175yds. then there were several more steel targets from 5" swingers to floppers, out to a Larue and 9" flopper set a 600yds.

I won't post my rusty shooting results as they were not impressive whatsoever today *facepalm*. Overall a good time was had by all and some excellent Venison burger, and some grilled vegetables were available for a quick lunch. Donations to WW were accepted as payment.

It was good to shoot with some friends we hadn't seen in a while. Ian K. and the Pohuski clan: Nice shooting guys!

There's not much I can add about the course of fire as described by Matt but I will add that I also had a blast. It's a great day when you get out and shoot some but even more so when you can do it with friends. I had an great time during the rifle stages but then again that's what I'm most familiar with. I thought both stages were run smoothly and effeciently with some pretty challenging shots thrown in as well...very ASC-like.

Yesterday I also learned some hard lessons, especially during the shotgun stage as I used a borrowed Mossberg 590A1 that I only fam fired Friday morning. Coming away from that I know that if I get a shotgun of my own to do more three gun matches I will definitely need to work on reloading and shell management. Going into this I wasn't exactly sure how the stages were set up and if everything had to be carried with you at all times. That being the case I had my belt set up to carry my pistol, three mags, AI mags for the rifle, and a dump pouch. My thinking was that I could use the dump pouch to hold the shells and just sort of get through it. Well I did...for many agonizing minutes trying to finger fuck 12 gauge shotgun shells out of that dump pouch while I was hot, on the move, and watching out for the targets I needed to engage. That stage was fun but completely alien to me....I liked the hanging road cones as shotgun targets though.

Right in between the shotgun and pistol stages we got rained on, which pissed me off a little bit since it cooled everything down with one stage left to go. I mean really it would've been fantastic if it had rained at like 10 am instead of 2:30 pm but anyway...at least it was cooler. The pistol stage was fun too and had a great time engaging the plate rack from inside and behind the vehicle. I also found that I should probably work a little more on my pistol reloads under stress. A few weeks ago I had worked on making the grip of my G21 SF fit me a little better and I think it worked out well yesterday. The grip stippling wasn't uncomfortable on my hand but it held the pistol in place. I also think the lack of the finger grooves, slightly reduced backstrap, and the scallop for my index finger were well received by my digits. The pistol stage went pretty quick though and I really wanted to do that stage again but we had to hit the road. I'm definitely getting some angled posts made up so I can use my steel targets up close .

All in all yesterday was well worth it and I hope to do more like it. My wife was also in attendance taking pictures so I hope to get some of them up soon.

GUYS, THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING THE EVENT. 105 DEGREES... RUN AND GUN STAGES... EVERYONE DID GREAT. THANKS TO BILLY BIRDZELL AND ROD HANSON FOR THEIR TIME AND EFFORTS. WE WERE ABLE TO ALL COME OUT IN SUPPORT OF WOUNDED WARRIORS PROJECT AND GET ON THE TRIGGER FOR THE DAY...
