30-06 168gr Sierra MatchKing Load Data

Hey Fellas,
I'm reloading 30-06 Springfield 168gr Sierra MatchKing. Does anyone have a good load for this bullet around 2600fps?

This is for a bolt Rem 700 action with a 23" 1:10rh twist barrel

Final velocity depends upon a lot of things. My PacNor 22 1/2" barrel (don't ask why 22 1/2) likes 59 gr RL 19 with the 168's. Or 165's. Using Wolf LR primers. 2720 fps, however. Your rifle may not like it.

I would just like to try a couple, or five, different loads to see how they perform out of my rifle.
Action: Rem 700
Barrel: 1:10rh 23"

I have been reloading the bullet with IMR 7828 60gr with Rem 9.5mag primers.

For a bolt rifle or a Garand? It does make a difference.

Feb. 1991

Win Brass
IMR-4064 Powder 45.6 grs.
168gr. Sierra MatchKing
--partial body resized so neck pressure holds and enough body sized out to feed reliably--
WLP Primer
OAL 3.XXX" (to suit your rifle) which was just off the lands for my rifle but that measurement doesn't matter for your purposes

Rifle:
Smith Corona Springfield '03A3 Heavy Bbl unk. Mfg. unk. gunsmith best est. a 1-10 twist using cleaning rod test.

Notes: Consistent load grouping sandbag rest sub-MOA
Use for Pembroke Offhand Matches

P.S. the Garand Load was simply 147-150 FMJ to Ball Equivalent IMR 4895 FL resized mixed headstamp for DCM (now CMP) Matches

My load has been 46gr of 748 @ 2680 out of my Sako. Not sure twist rate. Good luck with your load development.

55 grains of IMR4350.

Why only 2600 fps? With 23" barrel you should be able to get around 2850 with the right powder?

55gr H4350 is the min load for that bullet weight, and I have a suspicion it will still be over 2600fps.

If you want to get down that low, try BLC-2 with about 46.5-47gr of powder.

The factory Federal 168gr load is around 2900 out of my rifle and I believe those are loaded down to be safe for the M1, I could be wrong though.

The best all around load I ever found for my 06s was 55 gr. MR3100 under 168s. Biggest mistake I ever made was I got 64 pounds of it first purchase. I only have about five pounds of it left and I should have bought 640 pounds of it.
