30-06 208 amax & RL22

Well I was bored, waiting for new 24" barrel,so I loaded up some 208 amaxs in win brass, win WLR primer, neck sized, loaded .020" off the lands. Shot these in my marlin xl7 22" factory barrel.

I loaded to test pressure and somewhat a ladder shot at 100 meters.

56.5
57.0
57.5----
58.0---- All these 57.5,58,58.5 shot in a nice group all
58.5---- touching.
59.0-- sign of slight hard lift bolt
59.5-- same as above, hard lift bolt
60.0-- max hard lift bolt with slight swiping.

Didn't test any higher.

I dont have the speed number with me right now. But I was only getting 2520-2540 AVG WITH 57.5,58.0, 58.5. I did not clean the bore, but i was using 168 tsx prior before, so the bore maybe sticky with copper. Max speed with 60.0 grs was only 2595 fps.

Any ideas why so slow, bad chrony?? all loads shot from 2515 to 2595. seems really slow to me for 208's and 22" barrel? Magnum primers?

Ladder test picture at 100 meters. Looks like a good node around 57.5, 58,58.5.

Anybody else running 208's in 30-06?

I'm running the 208's in my -06 using 54.5gr of H4350 to produce an average velocity of 2650. Extreme spread is 11 and Standard deviation is 4. This is a pretty soft load and has shown no signs of pressure what so ever, even in 100* plus weather.

What Chrony are you using? My first thought would be chrony error. Lighting can change how your Chrony will pick up your projectiles.

I does seem a little slow, but every barrel, chamber specs, and powder lot will vary and will affect your velocity.

I think it was Frank Green from Bartlien Barrels who said it, that given two identical barrels, chambers and loads you might see 50-100fps in variation just from the different individual characteristics of the the barrels.

I'd try some H4350 or RL17 if you want more velocity. The RL 17 should yield higher velocity than the h4350.

I'm using a Pro Chrono,and changed batteries. I went back and retested the RL-22 load. First i shot another load to verify its working correctly. Shows the correct speed, so i'm good to go. Up was 58grs of RL-22 using 208's .020" off the lands.

Speed 2574,2578,2559,2559,and 2567. So either its either one of the thing you mention, could be the chamber, barrel, or powder. I'm going to give RL-17 a try next.
