Working on an 06 build..what do guys think about the 30-06ai? I am a handloader, guns gonna have a 24ish inch tube on it, looking to hit hard out to 1k. Will I really gain that much out of the ai? I do like to be a little different

You'll likely gain about 3 to 4 grains of powder volume.

I can cram about 62gr of RL22 under a 210 and it's heavily compressed. The AI should allow 64-65gr comfortably, and pick up 50 or so more fps.

I've been tempted to go AI, but the plain vanilla 30-06 does pretty good via handloads, as is.

Re: 30-06 Springfield or 30-06ai

Well I ran some numbers in jbm just for shits and the difference isn't huge but is noticeable at 1k. The plan is to put a SN-3 with 1/10mil EREK on it. If I read right the EREK has 90 clicks...jbm puts 1k dope right around there with 210 Bergers at 2750. I dunno..maybe Im talking out my ass. Heres the deal I want an 06 to get to 1k with one turn of an 1/10mil EREK and a 22-24inch barrel. I gotta do some more research.

Thanks

Thanks Lindy, that's what I was looking for. I must have had brain block as I didn't think to look there. Hey, does anyone know if the EREK indicates the second turn?

I have several Ackley rounds.... 30-06 AI included.

I don't know that I would do it again. My rifle won't allow me to shoot nearly as hot as Montana Marine can with his standard '06.

It all ends up being personal preference in the long run.

In 2005 USO went to a 3 turn knob on the EREK tenth mil knob. 27 mils of knob travel.
