300 AAC Blackout

New to this forum and i would like to say up front there' a lot of good information on this site.

As of last night I found on the site that AR Performance had 300 AAC barrels for $160 shipped so I jumped on one. I was looking for a AR-15 platform for close range deer hunting and I liked the idea of using all of the standard 5.56 equipment and the .308 bullets.

My question or concern now is that for reloading I'm seeing this round was designed for suppressor use, well as of now I don't own a suppressor so supersonic will be the way ahead for now. All of the load data I found so far seem to be downloaded to right around the 31K pressure mark. I reload for my 5.56 and I think the AR is able to handle upwards of 55-60K psi pressures. Is there any data out there to load this round a little hotter to get the velocities up a bit?

Also where on earth has the Remington ammo in stock now prefer online so I can order and have it shipped.

I think I'm going to like this rifle with a 552 Eotech on it in the South Carolina swamps.

I am going to build two uppers one for me and one for my brother. I am using the AR performance barrels. I also have converted brass comming in the next few days but I dont have the dies yet from Midway USA.

the best data I have found is the data for the 300 whisper to start. The problem is that most of the load data is for 10" barrels not 16" so you'll have to work it up from that info or wait for factory ammo.

I would think that rsilvers will have some load data for us soon being that we are at the tip of the spear in 300 AAC Blackout market.

We should be able to get 2400-2450 with a 123 grain bullet and equal or beat the 7.62x39 in energy.

There are powder and bullet companies working to publish load data.
Pretty much, I just use H-110 for bullets up to 150 grains and A1680 for bullets over 150 grains.

Component brass shipped today.

And the next big batch of Remington subsonic ammo is shipping this month.

123-125gr bullets, 20-21.5gr 1680 with the OAL around 2.01" is a good place to start.
21.5 is about max case fill with a 125 flat base bullet.

The 123 grain Remington ammo is factory rated at 2280 fps. This is a conservative rating that is easy to achieve and it is chronoing at 2320-2360 fps in the field. I don't recommend going over 2300 fps with a 125 grain bullet if your goal is to be at normal pressure. The exact velocity depends on OAL, powder, etc.

With a 110 bullet, 2450 fps is practical.

Thanks for the correction, I was taking the velocity from a previous post from rsilvers, AND assumed that you could bump it up a little. I should not have posted that.

The OP was concerned with the 16" as am I. There is little to no information on supersonic loadings for the round in a 16" barrel. With all the interest in this round and no supersonic ammo and no data it could be bad for business if people went beyond its capabilities.

What I need to know is what is the starting loads for 110 through 130 grain bullets and with what powder.

H-110 is the powder.

Use a 110 VMAX to 2.068 OAL.

H-110 worked like shit with the 240gr SMK for me. didn't work that great for 125gr nosler BT either. I'm gonna try some N-110 if i can find some around here.

H-110 is not for subsonic with ARs the way we set up gas ports but might be good for bolt guns. It is good for full power ammo.

I don't have experience with N-110 to know if it is capable of the same velocity or not so I am neither for or against it. If hypothetically I saw pressure data and it was making good velocity numbers at 55,000 psi, then I would be open to trying it for accuracy. QuickLoad thinks it is poor for velocity.

Excuse me, the 240gr SMK load was for a bolt. The N110 powder load was also in reference to a bolt gun load. The 125gr Nosler ballistic Tip was in a AAC 9" upper. The 125gr Noslers grouped around 4-5in at 100yds from bench using a 2.5-10x24 NF scope. All brass was trimmed and loaded to spec with each charge being weighed on Lyman DPS.

Is the 110gr Vmax/h110 load yielding better accuracy? Those bullets are kind of tough to find.

What is the most accurate load you have found for the 9" AAC upper so far?

For 25 round groups (5x5 average), the Sierra 135 is 1.5 MOA in the 9 inch. Load to about 2.085 OAL. 125 Berger 1.5 MOA. 110 Berger, 1.1 MOA, 110 Sierra, 1.3 MOA. It seems to like the lighter flat-based bullets the best.

I'm interested in the 110 sierra load. How much h110 did you use? Was it sierra's varmint bullet or a another?

I have some of the Berger 110gr SBR bullets, is that what you were referring to above as well?

Just Berger match bullets.

I can't post powder charges. Just make about 2.1 OAL for the Berger 110 and work up a load.

The Sierra was the Varminter but it is not a good feeding bullet for this cartridge.
