Hey there, folks. Just thought I'd post my mashup build. I have a Savage short action laying around and decided to put together a short/handy rifle. I'm getting my first suppressor (9mm) in a month or so which is rated for .300 BLK subs so I went with that calibre. Figured the supers would be adequate for white tail as well so I figure this calibre would do nicely overall. Also wanted to keep the whole thing under $1k. Here she is:
Savage short action (no special trigger)
Accustock (take off)
McGowen 16" heavy barrel, .300 BLK chamber, threaded 5/8x24
EGW base
Warne Maxima QD high rings
Minox 3-9x50 ZA3
The sling doesn't exactly go with the synthetic stuff but it's hands down my favourite. Was a gift from my grandpa who had it for around forty years and is comfortable as hell.
Right around 10 pounds loaded and about 34" overall as you see it. I figure if an action is worth $200, I'm in it for a total of $900 including the die rental for swapping the barrel myself.
Sub loads are indeed subsonic and group around 1.5 MOA. With 147gr supers I'm getting around 1 MOA. Just thought I'd share. I am DEFINITELY a fan of short rifles, now.
Cheers,
Brian
