300 Norma Improved 40 degree

Has anyone hear specked a reamer out and had dies made?

I think I'm going to build one, but if someone already has, I won't reinvent the wheel.

All help appreciated.

I believe Chad Dixon @ Long Rifles Inc may have the reamer. Might check with him.

I have a reamer ground by PTG. Call Dave Kiff and he'll get one out to the builder of your choice. I had my gun plumber send the reamer back to me after my project was complete. I had dies made by Neil Jones in PA.

I found a node at 3050. It'll push them faster but the accuracy dropped off. BC of the 300 SMK's without all the added recoil.

Is it really needed? The 300 Norma is already overbore. Why make it that much more of a barrel burner?

From my understanding decreasing pressure by changing the shoulder angle will decrease overbore could be wrong but it makes sense in my head. Decrease the pressures at which the gases escape the case you decrease the erosion to the throat.

If I'm wrong please tell me why.

You are right about the decreasing pressure helping to save bore life. However, increasing shoulder angle increases volume. While initially decreasing pressure because of the larger volume, it inherently increases pressure faster as you move up the powder charges.

More aptly, it increases the pressure curve.

Stay below where it's hot with a slower powder and you will see better case/bore life results and thus longer accuracy life. Go above the line consistently and it will burn up throats and trash cases much faster.

Designed a 300 JAZZ about 3 or 4 years ago. Not a 40* but a 30* degree shoulder so I had no feeding issues.
Great caliber and extremely accurate with low ES?
Do a search on here for info.

If you're looking for more capacity why not go with a 300 Lapua Mag? Get FL bushing dies off the shelf. Use the 338 seater as is. Saves a lot of money and aggrevation.

A fear comment but if your wonting a mag feeder the 2.5" case is a better place to start.

A fear comment, really. I have 140 different reamers in the shop. About 40 of them have resize reamers with which to make dies. wildcats that range from 218 bee based cases to improved Lapua. There is not much I haven't done. I would rather spend my time shooting instead of fiddling with brass all the time. Been there done that and I have better things to do.

Actions and CIP length mags are there. I don't see the problem.

I happen to have a pile of 338 Norma brass.

I'm already building a 338 Lapua Improved 40 degree

This seemed like an appropriate 30 caliber variant.

I really like the stability of case length in the improved cartridges.

I have a 338 Norma necked down to 30 with a 40 degree shoulder. I shoot the 208 a max at 3278 out of a 30 inch barrel. I get 3064 out of a 240 smk. I have also had a 338 Lapua necked down to 30 with a 40 degree shoulder. The Norma will do everything the Laupa will do maybe more with less powder. I have a reamer and dies. Build one you will not be disappointed.

You are better off going with the 30degree shoulder if concerned about feeding.
Not that the 40* is bad, just that the 30* gives you alittle leeway.
