I'm sure I'm beating a dead horse here, but after flipping through the load data in the other section my eyes started to spin.

I just ordered a 300 Norma so looking for some items to order to get me started.

27" 1-10 ai barrel
id like to push the 230 class over 3000 fps,

Looking at either the 230 Berger's or 225 eldms.
Any other bullets to consider?

Rl33 and retumbo seem to come up as the 2 fa orite powders with the highest given velocities?

Guys running 230 bergers who point them, is it worth it? What's your trued up bc at?

Any other tips and tricks ?

Thanks fellas!

I don't run the Berger 230's not enough gain for me over the 215 hybrid. It's my go to bullet but I have been experimenting with the 225 ELD-M's with good results. Been using Retumbo for powder, mines a 29". Have not pointed the 215's yet due to the experimenting with the 225's. I only point my .284 at the moment. I'm easily getting the 215 over 3000 with good brass life.

I guess the base dilemma I .my brain is I keep comparing it to a 7mm and trying to keep up. I considered and still am doing like a 7-300 Norma.
I guess in my mind the 7 can run the 195/197 so I wanted more than the 215.
I think mentally I'm guessing a 225/230 tipped can makuo some bc and velocity with that 35 grains of mass downrange.

What are you getting with the 225s? I've always been a Berger guy, Hornady has left me wanting more but the numbers are hard to argue with...

I'm shooting a custom 28" barrel on my AXMC. I load the 225 ELD-M's with 87.5 grains of Retumbo. 89 grains started showing high pressure signs. My muzzle velocity is 3070 with my TB ultra 9 on. I'm using a G1 BC of .80 to get my ballistic calculation to work out. Hope this helps.

Regards,

Todd

I am getting a 300NM barrel for my AXMC. What is everyone using for freebore? Can one switch pretty easily between 215s, 225s and 230s? Or do they all need different freebores?

To the OP - I have a 300 NM 27" DTA conversion. I shoot 230's primarily because I might use it on Elk/Deer and lower impact velocities might keep the bullets together a little better. The 215s have a better form factor and you have to get out there a ways for the 230s to start performing better. The 225 ELD or 230 SMK is going to give you better numbers on a calculator obviously, not sure if they'll be as accurate.

3000 FPS with Retumbo is getting pretty damn high in pressure but reasonable with RL33 or N570. I settled on 2940ish FPS with H1000 and 230s. Retumbo had some odd erratic velocities and RL 33 is tougher on barrels and more temperature sensitive.
