Took a doe Saturday at 656 yards with a .300 win mag , 230 OTM Berger , with 76.3 Retumbo at 2900 fps. Was hunting a real good friend of mines, on a power line where we always shoot plates at 1,000 yards. Rifle is a trued 700 action with a 30" Broughton 5c 1:10. And a thruster brake in an AICS.
Had my buddy Josh on the spotting scope and I dialed my scope to 3.5 mils and let her rip. Deer was DRT. And the carnage was pretty impressive. Shot her a little far back but the bullet exited right behind the left shoulder, hitting both lungs and Lord knows what else.
Had to laugh, the bullet took .77 seconds to get there, 2 to 2.5 seconds to hear the bullet pop her. I thought I missed. But Josh said she got HAMMERED. Then we heard the "pop".
So the YELLOW box bergers WORK!!
Anyways, was my first kill on a deer that far.. Previous was 542 yards.
Here's some pics of the carnage...
Exit hole just beside my hand...

Congrats on that fine shot!

There's a long thread over at LRH about how effective the 230's have been on game at longer distances. I think they are the best long range bullet out there, crazy accurate and comfortable recoil level compared to the 300 grain 338's.

I used my 30-375R in our local long range match last weekend with the 230 hybrid non OTM. They are going 2940 fps and are .743BC. I usually don't use this rifle in this match because it's so hard on the steel and of course there's the recoil and expense aspects to consider. I just wanted to use my reloads up because I'm going to 6.5SAUM till I get a 30-375R reamer ordered and this barrel set back with 1600 rounds through it now.

Anyhow everyone commented how quick the bullets got to the steel compared to other rounds and how brutally hard they hit! While listening to the other guys talk about their wind holds I realized I was aiming .3 mil less in the wind on average which is a huge advantage. I got the high score in spite of not being able to see where most of my misses went which is very important in our match as we shoot each steel twice.

What is the accuracy like compared to the 210 VLDs?

Nice hit.

I took a doe 2 years ago at 542 yards with the 210 vld. It was also DRT. Accuracy wise... I wouldn't know. I shoot 215's and 230's only in this rifle. But I had a 700 P that would shoot the 210's very well loaded to the lands. It was like a hand grenade went off inside them. Alot of meat damage also. I've actually cut my hands on shrapnel from a 210 vld before. This kill had a clean pass threw and didn't damage any meat.

I've got the 230 hybrids shooting very well out of this rifle also. Only thing is I can't fit them in in an AICS mag. The OTM is VERY forgiving in regards to jumping and that's why I chose them. I've also noticed that they fly a heck of a lot faster with their low bearing surface.

Nice group!

One of the things I like about my 30-375R is being able to seat the 230H non OTM's at mag length. I'm ordering a new reamer with the throating set so I don't have all the jump I've got now as the chamber is currently throated for the 240's.

My best group when the barrel was new was .22" tall x .080 wide" for 5. Those 230's are just a great bullet.
