I was wondering if anyone out there has stumbled on to a sweet load in the .300 Win. Mag. with 210 grain Berger VLD bullets? I'm loading with IMR 4831, but also plan on some loads with Reloader 22. My plan is to shoot these out of both my Kimber 8400 L.A. Police Tactical as well as my Savage 110 FCP-K, seated out to .010 to no more than .020 off the lands.

I just loaded up some Sierra 180 Gr. Matchkings with 71.6 Gr. of IMR 4831. I'm using Federal Gold Medal 215-M Magnum Benchrest Primers with everything. I have high hopes for both of these rifles, so if anyone has an exceptionally good recipe to share, I'd love to hear it. Thanks in advance, Bill T.

Bill T is your savage is it a factory rifle? reason why I ask is that you will likely not be able to reach the lands and still use your mag. I'm currently using 175 vlds with 74.8gr re-22 coal to max mag length this combo avarages .75 to .5 moa in my savage and I will be soon working up a load for 208 amax.

I love H1000 in 300 win mag. Doing some primer testing with Winchester Large Rifle, BR2s, CCI large rifle magnum and Federal Match Large rifle. I found a load and BR2s were the best but I was out so I tried the cci 34s or 41s (the 7.62 mil spec ones) and they cut the group in half from anything except the BR2s and it was 30% better than those (.375 groups) with spread of 9 and sd of 3 with the 165 interbonds and sst's my buddy decided he want to shoot. Try them out. I also checked with 150s and 208 amax's and found that H1000 likes them the best.

75.5 grains of RL25 works really well for me in a 24" barrel and a 210 berger. I'm seeing 2875 average velocity with sub .5 moa accuracy to 600 yards. That's as far as I can go. H1000 at 75.6 grains also works really well and it gets about 2850 average velocity and shoots just as well. My standard deviation is some what better with the RL25 though they are both great for the 300 winnie loaded with the 210 berger. My coal is 3.630" and jammed into the lands 0.010". I find that the bergers like the lands. I jump the a-maxes 0.015" and they are happy there for me.

Hey guys what are your thoughts on this load;

210 VLD 74gr of H-1000 Rem brass Federal large mag primers.
COAL of 3.500.

I will be shooting them out of a Savage 110 BA

Will I have any issues with the COAL?
SAMMI suggests that the COAL length not excede 3.340 MAX

Summer.... 71.8 grains r22 Winter.... 72.7 grains r22 This is out of a 700 Police with a few mild upgrades. Be very careful though because most of reloader 22 lots are veryyyy temp sensitive. I lost 100 fps with just 30 degrees difference in temperature. Very finicky powder. If I had to all over again I would stick with h1000

75.5grs. H-1000
Winchester Brass full prepped
Federal Gold Medal Match 215M Primer
Ogive OAL- 2.881"
OAL was around 3.595" (I mainly pay attention to the Ogive and not the OAL)
Just touching lands
Velocity Avg. 2,890fps

Outstanding. 300WM load. Very accurate. I load this up by the hundreds!

I couldn't pass up the H414 at the asking price (H1000 was definitely not economically priced for the 1# available), but unfortunately I seem to be working backwards now. As I understand Magnums like slower burns, but is there an optimum tradeoff with H414 and the heavy's wrt burn rate/Grains = results in a .300WM? I've seemed to find a load in 60.X grain range, but that's a 300WSM...is it a futile attempt to continue down the H414 path or is there a nice shiny light at the end of the tunnel?

The common H1000 is further off from other commonly used 4350 and R19, but not far off from 414 (Powder Burn Rates or Burn Rate), so while I understand burn rates/pressure equations enough to keep myself out of trouble, would it be reaching? Someone out here has had to have done some experimenting....?

I use 210 Hunting VLDs in my 300 Win Mag and for whatever reason, I'm able to throw them pretty damn fast. I'm using Black Hills brass, H1000, FGMM mag primers, and seating to COAL 3.615. I'm still honing in on the accuracy node, but I've gone up to 78.5gr with no pressure signs (in 90 degree heat). I should have better numbers for you in a couple weeks, but the 77.5gr to 78gr area looked the most promising to me. My groups in that zone today were about 1/3-1/2 MOA, which is great considering my rifle's hunting contour barrel was getting pretty warm. What's crazy is that QL says I'm still well below max loads at 78.5 grains of H1000....

I also switched from RL22 to H1000. 220 gr Lapua Scenars touching the lands (cartridge base to ogive of 2.977").
I found a good OCW node at 74.4 doing 2759 fps, but got up to 77grs and 2934fps out of a 24" barrel with no sticky bolt, primers still showing radius and normal firing pin results. I measured the case above the belt and couldn't detect any bulge at all with calipers. Seems fast, but maybe I shouldn't complain.

So get this: I just finished at the range today and found a node at 80.0gr H1000. I will say that driving the 210 that fast in a hunting weight gun is punishing, but it's not like I'm shooting comps with it so I can live with it. Full recipe is below.

210gr Berger VLD Hunting
80.0gr of H1000
Black Hills brass
FGMM Magnum primers
OAL: 3.615"

I'm using a 26", 1:10 twist barrel. I'm seeing people getting 2900fps with 77grs of H1000 out of 26" barrels. Quickload is telling me I should be at 2870 with 3 grains more powder. Anyone want to make a guess at what my FPS might be? I don't have the LR dope data to do an approximation right now, but I'm thinking I'm at least 3050fps.

i'm thinking you better have your scale checked. i cant get that much powder in the brass,if i could there aint no way to stuff a bullet
of that length with it?

With BHA brass, there's definitely room. I could probably get to 82.0gr, but no way in hell I'd pull the trigger on that. At the very least I'd have a sticky bolt and cratered primer. Still, I'm pretty happy that I've found a solid accuracy node at 80gr. By the way, I'm using a Chargemaster for the powder and have never had an issue with it being off more than .1gr of powder.
