Re: 300 win mag MATCH? Advantages/ Disadvantages
Like stated above, the 300WM is a hammer and will hit very hard down range. But you pay the price in extra recoil, more muzzle blast, and higher cost to shoot. I shot my TRG 42 in 300WM for several years before building a custom 260 Rem. I am 100% sold on the 260 Rem. You get almost an exact duplicate of the 300WM ballistics shooting a 190 SMK with a 139 or 140 grain 6.5 bullet. And you get less recoil, less muzzle blast, and cheaper to shoot.
The main thing you give up though is the energy. Sometimes that's a good thing. I've drilled steel at long range in matches with my 300WM and it disable the target. I could also spot my hits and misses easier with a 300. But I can still see them with a 260, just takes a little more looking.
It's a great caliber and can be hand loaded for great accuracy. I have over 1700+ rounds in my TRG and it still shoots less than 1/2 MOA last time I shot it.
