300 WSM loads....

Brother bought a 300WSM with an 11 twist. He is thinking 165 to 180 range bullets for hunting.

Anyone have good or pet loads he could start with and tailor to his rifle ?

Saw a good list of 300 WSM loads on 6mmbr the other day on one of their gun of the week articles.

My main load is 64gr of H4350 with 175 SMK but Ramshot and N550 work well also.

I started using the 150 grain Ballistic Silvertip when I was given my SAVAGE 300 WSM.That was WAY OVERKILL,my initial problem was mass to velocity.I was using a 150 gr load.This effectivly creates a nice rifle grenade(LARGE CAVITATION).I increased the weight to 180 gr and found the round to behave as advertised;however any balliastic tip frags badly if you must take a shot in any situation where brush is concerned.Hence a friend and I began to work on a special BARNES TRIPLE SHOCK load.We had great success with the bullet in all areas. If you are interested I can pass our data along to you as a starting point.

I'm liking 71gr RL22 with a 168TSX for my hunting load.

If you do decide to work up a TSX load,do yourself a favor and read the included suggestion paper in the BARNES box,you'll save money!

my 26" savage 12 doesnt care for the slower powders like 4350s. i was a bit surprised. it prefers 4007ssc and varget(for light bullets) my pet deer load is 63g 4007, and a S165GKHP

68.0 gr I4831, 180NBT
69.0 gr I4350, 150TSX
64.2 gr I4350, 180NBT
69.1 gr RL19, 168AMax
