Sorry if this issue has been addressed before but I searched for it and couldnt find anything. I shoot my stock 597 at 200 regularly with bulk ammo and MIXXED results. At the range I normally shoot at it stops at 200 and when I go to my other range it has totally different winds and I was trying to shoot at 300 but cannot find paper. I was wondering what the drop on 22lr bulk ammo (555boxes) is at 300 yards roughly so I could try to wind them in. Also what ammo do you have the best success with for 22lr at 200+, I'm guessing CCI mini mag or something. Thanks

I'll let someone with more 300 yard experience answer this part on drop.
However, your best choice of ammo is going to be subsonic as it does not transition in flight like the high velocity ammo does which causes a wobble effect on the bullet when it enters into the speed of sound. Subsonic ammo is under the SOS and therefore there is no transition. You will find subsonic ammo much more forgiving. With this said, you will have to test SS ammo to see which works best with your rifle.
That's pretty much it in a nut shell when it comes to ammo and shooting long range.
I'll let someone with more 300 yard experience answer this part on drop.

With CCI minimags 19.5moa should get you on the paper. That is what my son uses on our 541s going from 200 to 300 yards.
Not to disagree with the others but we've not had any luck past 200 with the target or low velocity ammo. The minimags work best for us in our rifles and also the pistols we shoot at the farther distances. The target did much better for group size closer but just fell apart when we stretched it out.

I have found that from a 100 yard zero I need to add 21 MOA to be on at 200 yards. From the 100 yard zero 39 MOA gets me on at 300 yards. Again from a 100 yard zero I need 72 MOA to get on at 400 yards. It is very helpful to have a spotter as the 22lr barely disturbs the dirt enough to see the hits. What I found that works the best for me is an 18" Shoot-N-See target on a 4'x 4' piece of cardboard.

Speaking from a 200 yard point of view. When using subsonic ammo along with a scope, you really need a 20 to 25 MOA scope base. The same should hold true with shooting 300 yards.
In the long run the subsonic ammo will prove more accurate over the high velocity stuff, and is best put to use (IMHO) by starting out at 50 or 100 yards and working your way out to 200 and in your case 300 yards in 50 yard increments - making adjustments as you go.

What really messes with you is switching between mil and MOA scopes and FFP and SFP scopes. Unfortunatley there are not scopes available for all aspects of shooting (NF 2.5-10 mil SFP, Leupold 3.5-10 EFR moa SFP, Leupold 3-9 EFR moa sfp, S&B scopes mil FFP, NF scopes mil FFP etc etc).
My experience with 22LR ammunition is, at times, some of the lots are really quite consistant, other times....not. The higher dollar ammunition tend to stack the consistancy odds in the shooters favor BUT there are rifles that shoot some of the cheapest crap extremely well and don't shoot the higher end stuff well at all...very odd. In general the higher dollar barrels are set-up to shoot the high dollar ammo very well.

I got my Savage MKII zero'd at 50 this past sat and it took me 28.5 moa to get to 200 on a nice calm afternoon. Thought that seemed a little much. I was shooting CCI standard velocity blue box. 1070 fps. Has anyone else had to use that much to get to 200? I always heard between 22 and 25.
