308 and Hornady TAP ammo

I finished up a rifle for a customer over the weekend and he told me he wanted to shoot Hornady TAP ammo in it. Since I only reload, I bought a box at Cabelas. The 168gr A-MAX TAP. I shot some handloads during break in and they shot really well. Then I shot the TAP ammo. Well, you can see the results.... .257" CTC

This is 5 shots off a bipod and rear bag on the ground at 100yds:

Here is the rifle:
Phoenix Machine Receiver w/ 1pc bolt
Rock Fluted M24, 26", 1-11.25 twist
Manners T2
Badger M5
Jewell Trigger
Seekins base/lug combo
Matte Black Gun-Kote metal
OD Cerakote on the stock
Chambered in 308 Match (Modified Palma Match Reamer throated for 168-175gr bullets)

Anybody else use this stuff? How does it compare to Black Hills and the other premium commercial loads?

I shoot Black Tail Deer up here in Alaska, I have used the 55 Tap, balls them up real good. Point of fact, it destroys the lungs, not just a hole, they look like balloons that have split in two. Great round.

I use the standard 168 AMAX load, which is loaded the same ballistically as the TAP, for my practice load and it's very accurate. Hornady loads some good ammo.

I tried Black Hills, Federal Gold Medal, Lapua , TAP, and Lake City in my M14. Federal Gold outshot them all but Hornady was a close second and cheaper.

Man, that is one mean looking rifle. I've also heard that TAP ammo was good shooting stuff.

Hornady makes some very accurate ammo and not just in the .308. Here's two groups from two different lots of 6.5 Creedmoor factory ammo I have. The group on the left is 5 shots from the old lot and the group on the right is 10 shots from the new lot.

That's good to hear since I am looking at 168gr TAP as a possible replacement for FGMM as our duty round.

I love shooting TAP ammo when I can afford it. When I reload I use 168 Hornady AMAX for 308 and 60GR VMAX for 223. They are very accurate - I have absolutely zero complaints. You can't beat Hornady products.

I use the 168 A-max TAP for all my demonstrations.

I can't have enough good things to say about it. Great stuff!

Dont sleep on the 110 TAP either if you need a reduced penetration round. Excellent accuracy and superb terminal ballistics if you dont have the need to punch materials or heavy cover. It only does 10" in gel but it leaves one hell of a hole.

have had good success with the 75gr .223 TAP in my Savage LRPV, not surprised by your results with the TAP ammo.

the first ammo i got for my rifle when it was new, was tap. It shot outstanding, but havent had the oportunity to compare it to much else. When it shoots as good as it does, why bother right?
